A few simple questions...

Yo

I wanted to purchase a 94 Formula but as it turns out, insurance is crazy as I suspected and My Dad denied my bank loan. So... I figured what I would do is save up for about a year or so... than purchase my own. I wasn't sure what I should go for, I would prefer a LS1, a 2000 really, or 2001 but i'm not sure if its worth the price.

I know in like a year, prices will drop some, but i'm not worried about that.

My questions are... what are the major differences in the LT1/LS1 models? I know power is a substancial difference, but the power on both cars is more than enough for my needs. So if I get the LS1 model, will I really have much more of a better car? Brakes, MPG, quality in general?

Are there better LS1 models which vary with each year or no?

Thanks in advance...

I would look into the LS1 insurance cost. 2001+ LS1s got a LS6 intake manifold. LS1s don't have any common major problems that I know of. Piston slap is common but its nothing major. I don't know about the brakes but the LS1 gets better gas mileage then the LT1.

I've had experience with both. The LT1 was a little more powerful in the low end, but once it comes to top end the LS1 is alot more powerful, in my opinion. The LS1 also gets about 30-40 miles more on a tank, depending on how you drive it . I've had my LS1 for about 7 months and have not had a single problem with it. The LT1 was a pain in the butt. I spent too much money on fixin' that thing (that's why I got rid of it), but that's MY experience. I'm sure there are good ones out there. I'm not sure about the technical differences but I love my SS.

I have had two LT1's one 94 Trans Am and the other a 96 Formula both were auto's. I now own a 2000 Camaro SS LS1.

I will never go back to the LT1, The low end on the LS1 leaves a little to be desired but the top end screams. The LT1 however has more than enough low end. The brakes on the LS1 cars are also awesome.

I would say that the insurance companys will probably consider the lt1 and ls1 to be in the same class. "high risk" insurance will most likely be the same price range (crazy to wack). I paid $198.57 a month before I turned 25. Then it went down to $110 a month after I turned 25. Check your insurance rate at www.progressive.com . They gave me a great rate when I went from my 95 style fbody to my 2001z. The Ls1 is the way to go man! A few things that are nice on the 98+ style camaro besides the LS1 engine are the new rounded headlights with brighter and MUCH easier to change lights, plus the redesigned dashboard.

why do people keep saying that lt1's are so much stonger in the low end. they are not "so much" stronger. the ls1 is just so much more stronger on the top end it makes the low end feel weaker.
if you get an lt1 you will more than liekly have problems with the optispark (ignition) and that is costly. i would definetly have to say save up a bit more and get an ls1. more power, noticly better gass mileage, less problems (so far for me anyways), better looking front end, and there is probably more i am forgetting.
