fan question

well i'm trying to figure some things out, but i know theres 2 fans on the ls1 is one only for the a/c? or are both used to cool the motor, also if only one is used how could i get both to run, i want to put in a fan switch since i am going to the woodward dreamcruise (big car event lots of bumper to bumper traffic) and i dont want my car to over heat.

on my other cars i just simply grounded the relay to turn the fan on, should i do the same with my z?

thanks
Russ

Both fans operate at either low or high speed depending on their settings. Overheating in bumper to bumper traffic shouldn't happen if the cooling system is OK. If you're just wanting to install a switch SLP sells one or you can wire one yourself - saw a link for a DIY switch w/leds earlier today, will find it and post it if you need it.

You really don't need to do that. An LS1 will idle in the heat all day long without overheating. Ans yes I've been to the Dream Cruise so I know the conditions that you'll be in.
Last Thursday we spent 45 minutes going 4-5 miles in a traffic tie up on I-270 in St. Louis, MO in 100° heat with the air on. The temp guage hardly moved.

The LS1 cooling system is a beast, especially with the 160 stat and re-programmed fans

As long as the cooling system is in good working order (no leaks, damaged/missing air dams, etc) you can idle all day with the AC on in 100 degree weather in heavy traffic.

As stated, you should be fine.

Low speed fan turns on/off @ 226*F/219*F.
High speed fan turns on/off @ 233*F/227*F.
Low speed fan will turn on when A/C is on and ECT is greater than 32*F.
High speed fan will turn on when A/C is on if A/C system pressure becomes greater than 1710kPa (248psi).

The PCM has you covered.
