Exhaust Tips- how close?

How close can your exhaust tips be to the bottom of the car?

I've recently installed these square tips:

But I want to move them to about 1/4 inch from the bottom of the bumper and also tuck them back in a little. The old stock tips hung down pretty low but I don't know if this was because of potential exhaust damage or just for conservative clearance. I've also noticed that many after market tips jut out and away from the back of the car. I want mine tucked under somewhat tight.
Can I do this???

My tips on the 6 are within a 1/4" to 3/8' no damage yet(11 months) wait for more replies though. the tips I'm talkin are Magnaflows tips huge. You have Magnaflow on your sig. Why? I've been wanting some input as to how the Mag. sounds on the Z.
BTW that new grill is hot, love the emblem in the center. It'd look great on my Z.Where'd you get it? What type of material is it?

Cut the pipes down or slide tip on further?

1/4 to 3/8 is exactly what I want to do- very close but not touching. The pipes need to be cut down another inch or more. I'll wait to see what others have experienced also.

I bought the Magnaflow muffler only. After hearing some complaints about load exhaust, I knew I didn't want 'very' loud, just louder than stock. I think it sounds great. It's got a good low base sound at idle and low revs. It'll come alive when you step on it though. I didn't like the tips on the Magnaflow Catback so I got the muffler only and replaced the tail pipes locally. I wanted to keep the Z28 look with the rectangular tips.

The Z/28 emblem is a '69 reproduction (chrome and painted steel). I don't remember where I got it but they're not hard to find- maybe suncoast.

Nice car, I like those tips.
My loudmouth tips are about 1/4 inch from the bottom. I wouln't want them any closer but they look good where they are.

Also I got a badge like that to put on my billet grillle but if I put it in the middle like yours is, it sticks out on the ends because the grille curves and the badge is straight. Did you bend yours? I was afraid it would break.

I might just put it on the bottom driver side of the grille. The grille is flat there and I have never seen anyone else do that.

Z/28 Emblem:

(I replaced the studs with threaded versions using J-B Weld)

I specifically looked for the 9 line grill. I've seen 11 & 14 grill line versions but decided they are too busy. http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/...atalog_ls1.htm

That would be close to the correct original '69 location.
But the badge works very well in the center even with the bend (I may have tried to unbend it slightly). Since the grill recesses slightly under the hood You can't get a very good angle to see the bend. It looks quite natural there. The tough part was adding the threaded studs and securing it properly.
