It seems as though you are looking for the Magnaflow exhaust, IMHO. Not too loud but louder than stock, a REAL demon when you press like hell, and it flows better that the Flowmaster. In fact, I think that they have sound clips at magnaflow.com. I will be getting these hopefully before Christmas. Just my .02

Seems like a lot of people say that catback X flows better than catback Y, but no one has dynos to back up that information. I've never seen dynos proving that *any* catback had greater/lesser power gains than any other.
That being said, if you're looking for the best power gain for the least dollar, and you don't care about sound - go for the cutout...
laters,
Shane

So what exactly are we saying here.....that for the best performance the cutout is hands down the way to go. If you want sound and performance go with dynomouth or loudmouth. If you just want sound go with a regular catback or just put on a different muffler...right? I was looking into prices and what about random tech? Is anyone running this system?

I got about 20-25 HP on my Corsa...Smooth and mellow inside when you are goin easy...Mean as hell @ WOT. Only complaint is that it gets a vibration noise going in park and reverse. Slight, but annoying for a $700 system...

Oh and the tips look fresh as hell. Despite the rattle, I still put in my vote for Corsa.

If I had the money Corsa would be my choice, but since I'm sort of on a budget for the next month, I decided to go with Hooker.

"Dynomouth"

I've heard a couple of them and they sound GREAT! Plus, it's cheap to build. ($150 or less ... installed)

I like my Flowmaster. A good bit more agressive than stock. Sounds muscular. Agree with the previous post re: don't waste your $$ on a cat back for all the reasons he mentioned. I got mine done at a local exhaust shop. Installed with custom 3 1/2" chrome tips it came to about $260 - about $100 of that was the tips. The exhaust shop mgr said expect 8-10 additional hp. Hard to "feel" an extra 8-10 hp seat of the pants when you're already talking 310 hp !!!!!

I was in your position about 2 months ago, im new to the ls1 as well and i ended up with a corsa. i know you said around $350 but i think it was worth it and im more than satisfied. a lot of people complain about drone, i had a flowmaster cb on my 95z with headers and after an hour on the highway my head hurt plus it never looked that good. the only two entirely stainless catback systems (i think) are borla and corsa and then its just preference. but keep in mind you most likely dont want to install anything twice, so you might be better off paying a little extra up front.

its not the loudest exhaust but its one of the cleanest i think.
