Re: exhaust question ?

You'd need a cat-back. It'll run from the Y all the way back to the tips...it's basically just pipes, a muffler (or a resonator in the SLP LM's case) and tips.

Like any of these: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=3&pcid=53

Re: exhaust question ?

Welcome to the board.

Make sure that you buy the correct Y-Pipe to fit your headers. SLP makes a stock replacement Y-Pipe that only fits the stock exhaust manifolds (headers). Other companies make Y-Pipes specifically for long-tube headers and other types. The last thing that would complete your exhaust system with be a nice free-flowing cat-back exhaust system. I just bought TSP's Rumbler last Friday and I can't wait for it to get here. Some cat-backs (like the Rumbler and SLP's Loudmouth) will flow better than others. It all depends if you're after sound or performance.

Go to www.ls1sounds.com and listen to all the exhaust clips there. It's a great resource.

Re: exhaust question ?

ok thanks a lot.. i was looking in the threads and i thought i read that the y-pipe replaced the cat so i wasnt sure if u needed a cat back or not? Im pretty much a noob, and i was wondering if it mattered to have different brands throughout the whole exhaust system ?

It does...kinda. With mid-length or long tube headers, you're going to have to either: move the cats (replace them with aftermarket cats) or get rid of them (an "off road" Y-pipe)...

Nope.

Just to stick to cat-back's here...your choice should be based on price and sound. All cat-backs will produce very similar gains in power (which is very little...don't believe that SLP LM 25hp gain crap). Looks (tips) are somewhat important to people but sound and price should be the two biggest factors (for the average Joe, at least).

But im also trying to go for performance as well.... do u think i should just buy catback and then headers? would that be easier and would i get good gains from it ?

Re: exhaust question ?

It'll feel like your going faster with just a cat back, and you probably are, but you're definatly not going to notice the difference like upgrading to headers. Most peope do cat backs first though. Its a pretty simple mod that gives you the sound you want and its a great start to modding your car. I'd do a good cat back first. Check out www.ls1sounds.com and listen to the different brands to see which one sounds the best to you... then buy that one.

Re: exhaust question ?

If u just bought the car and are completely new to Camaro's and our boards, i would wait a little bit before u decide on anything like exhaust or headers but otherwise everybody covered it. Just start out with a lid, SLP or MTI i think are the two top lids but don't make much difference. And if u decide to go with offroad pipes then stay away from the SLP loudmouth, very raspy. Goodluck with the car and try to listen to them in person if possible.
