Exhaust Cutouts

I have been looking at these and they look awesome. I want to put them right after the headers, one on each side so they bypass the cats. Is this possible with a stock y-pipe and headers on a 99 Z28? Or do I have to get some kind of shorty heders because the cutouts add some pipe.

Look Here...2nd item down. Any ideas? expiriences? thanks again guys!

With headers, you will get maximum performance out of open headers by running 2 cutouts right after the headers. Electronic caps are the way to go though, so you can open and close them with the push of a button

That sounds good, but still going through the cats
What do you need to do to install one of these things? Is it difficult? Do you have any pictures of yours? Thanks man

I have my cutout right after the y-pipe.. I didnt install it myself though.. I just took it to a muffler shop and the guy only charged me 25 bucks. I dont have the electric opener yet, but when I get it I will install that myself.

To put the cutout in the y-pipe you need to cut out a piece of the y-pipe that is the length of the cutout and then weld it in. I put mine just before the rear axle and it's plenty loud. I have a McCord powerplate on it and I love it. It's nice to be able to cap it with the flip of a switch, especially on those long highway trips.

I believe that can be done.

Good electric cutouts to look at are the QTECs, they are a little more expensive than the Mccraps, but they don't break on you.
www.quicktimeperformance.com is where you can get them. Also if your really into open headers, you can get their LTs with the dual cutout Y pipe, its like running open headers

I've read enough posts about Mccords breaking, to ever think about buying one of those.....Go over to LS1tech.com and ask them what they think about the Mccord, I am sure you will get 100% of the replies telling you not to buy it and to get a QTEC. Not trying to bash or anything, but just giving the best advice I can, and this one is a no brainer

LS1tech is probably the most well informed board......It also takes the longest to get a response, thats why I like Z28, you get answers here faster

Is it worth doing a cutout on an SLP Loudmouth exhuast? From what I hear the gain is very minimal once you have an aftermarket catback.

I have actually heard some bad things about the Mccords. I heard they don't last long, due to some of the little motor pieces being made out of weak plastic. That's only what i heard though.
