Exhaust for 2002 Z28

My dad just bought a 2002 Z with 32k miles on it, black, 6spd, its amazing. He says the stock exhaust sounds too "tame" and I agree. He has put me in charge of finding an exhaust system for it. He doesn't want something really loud like the Loudmouth system, just something more muscle car sounding. I have the Hooker-Cat back on my 3rd gen and he loves the sound and loudness of it. Anything comparable for 4th gens????

I have Hooker on my LT1 and love it. I've heard it on LS1s as well and sounds just as good. Magnaflow is pretty good too. Just avoid Borla. I had it on my Z and a friend has it on his 2002 Z28. Sounds god awful and raspy.

Thumbs up

Hooker is a very good choice for LS1, too. And a lot less expensive than some of the others.

If you want a cheap exhaust go with a cutout in the intermediate pipe...thats it! I have a cutout on my 00 WS6's stock catback and it sounds damn good. For $25.00 you can't beat it.

Yup, and therefore cutout, like suggested above, might not be the best option, either.

Another option, however, would be a flowmaster muffler (sound you can't beat ) with a cutout. That way the exhaust would sound a lot better than stock, and with the cutout (preferrably with an electric plate) he could get the extra hp when ever needed (or when he just wants to make some noice ).

That's what I have. Comes out a lot cheaper than any catback you can buy.

I had a Loudmouth with long tubes and a cam and it was just to much, now I went with the SLP center mounted exhaust system that came on some 2002 SS, now it is alot quieter but louder then stock. Also the Spintech has a real nice sound to it, almost like a flowmaster but nicer and flows better. Go to exhaustsoundclips.com I believe that's the address and listen to some of the different ones.

Tbyrne lists on their website #16811HKR. Not sure whether that is Hooker's or Tbyrne's number, though...

If I didn't have the setup I have now, I would have the Hooker catback.

16811 is the right PN for the 3" hooker aerochamber catback for the LS1. Nice sounding setup, good price, nice HP gains. Only downside is it's not Stainless Steel.

A great sounding exhaust is the Dynomouth with an 18" bullet muffler. It does get just as loud as the Loudmouth but Sounds more like an Muscle Car except when WOT then it Screams and it is not that bad. Or go with either Hooker or Magnaflow.
