What's so special about the GMMG anyway? How is it built better than all other exhausts and what makes it sound so good?

exhaust is like picking a color, in that if everyone had the same exhaust it would be a boring world. I don't think there is that much diff (less than 5hp) between most of the exhausts. But there is def a warrany/quality factor. The higher priced exhausts cost more but are made out of better materials, just like with headers. I've heard very good things about MAC and Magnaflow for being less expenisve exhausts, but my choice was CORSA, I just love the look!

I agree with omega the gmmg is the best sounding exhaust for these cars but I just can't justify that money for one either.

You can get it for $650 shipped thru the f-bodyhideout.com group purchase, but its still a lot of money I guess. I can't wait to start my car tomorrow morning! Hopefully it will be really cold outside

im sorry, but can you stfu about your gmmg. seriously. i have read way too many posts about you telling everybody pretty much that every exhaust is crap except gmmg. he was asking for tips on installing his new exhaust, not for what he should get.
im sure im not the only one that has noticed this.

btw im not in a good mood, and i hate it when people tell others that their stuff isn't the best, or sucks. there is such a thing called cash flow, some people don't have all th emoney in the world to blow on really expensive stuff that does not perform any noticibly different.

back on topic now....
just get either a hacksaw or a sawz-all to take off your stock cat back. everything else i used to do mine was stuff i had in the garage all ready. i used a sawz-all and it was off in a matter of minutes. i would imagine a hacksaw would take quite a bit longer.

I don't give two sh|ts about what kind of PMS mood you're in. When someone asks about which exhaust they should get, I'll talk about the GMMG. If someone asks something that has to do with exhausts, I'll throw in a GMMG comment in a humorous way, not putting down everyone elses exhaust. Out of all expensive exhaust systems, the GMMG sounds the best IMO. I spend a lot on my exhaust, but won't spend a lot on other car mods which other people would. So I'm sorry, but you can stfu muff.

Question

Wow...easy guys....just looking for some advice and for any pitfalls I may run into while removing the stock cat cback and installing the new one. How about the battery? The instructions say to dissconnect the battery so the system can reset with the new exhaust. .....I have never had to replace a battery on a new car, and am wondering if there is anything that can happen with the car's computer when I dissconnect the battery. Does that computer need to be reset?...If so how do ya do that? Or is it just a matter of reconnecting and crankin it up?

Yeah I think thats the idea, I guess for best performance they want you to reset the computer so it can readjust timing and fuel for the increased flow. But I would talk to someone real knowledgeable to see if thats really required. I think if you reset ur computer ur supposed to drive the car a certain way to get best performance results, but I don't know what that is. Basically I don't think it makes a big diff, but I don't know.

You are definately NOT the only one to notice this. I have heard omega9 say in previous threads that all catbacks sound like crap except for GMMG. While I agree that it is one very nice sounding catback it IS a waste of money.

No catback is worth $700. I would not spend $700 on a catback when that money could be spent in so many better places. Think about it a minute, $700 can buy you a Torque converter. $700 can buy you headers and y-pipe. $700 can buy you a cam and springs. $700 can buy you a N20 kit. $30 can buy you a cut-out. $300 can buy you a hooker catback. $350 can buy you a loudmouth. $150 can buy you a Dynomouth. Well you see my point.

To the original poster you want the car on stands if possible. The higher off the ground you can get the car the easier it'll be. A sawzall will make the job very easy. You want to cut the old exhaust out which is the bulk of the work. I have heard countless times how it takes two hours to remove the old exhaust and only 30 minutes to install the new one.

But get a sawzall. If you don't have one then borrow one if you have a friend, neighbor or relative who does. BTW the magnaflow is stainless steel, flows a little better then hooker and I believe a little louder then the hooker as well. Good Choice.

Good Luck on the install and enjoy the new sound and hidden horses
