Well basically I have had 4 European autos in my life and this is my first m6 american car and I am still wondering why I loved my past cars so much. So in short get the m6. It is amazing fun!

The downside: I now have a callouse in my palm.

The upside: If it fails on you, more tranny mechs are familiar with the T-56 than they would be with a 4L60E(Auto).

I used to have an auto.. I made it a point to get the 6sp after having 6 trannines in that car within 3 years!

That had better not be what I've got to look forward to!!!!! I definitely like to "drive" my car, but since I couldn't order one in time, I had to take the auto. I'm OK with it, but I swear if the transmission blows up on me, I'm doing an A4->M6 swap!

From El Paso to Las Vegas it's 754miles, door to door for me. I AVERAGED 36 mpg up and back with the SS. I stayed in 6th most of the way too. IMHO, drivers prefer stick!

36mpg!! That is unheard of .

I do drive a lot around town in traffic, but also a lot on the highway, so I definitely want the gas mileage. I probably going to get a 6pd. NOw the only thing to do is find one. Thanks everybody

I have a 98 SS M6--love it. If you road race, rather than drag race, the M6 is the way to go. Plus, there is some real skill in mastering the manual, and if you really work on heel-and-toe downshifting, matching revs, etc., then when you get it, you'll feel like you've really learned something. I am working on those skills now, too.

When I use the SS for the commute, it can get tiresome, but the clutch is very light for such a powerful car.

I regret buying my car an M6, I wish it was an auto but not a 4L60E, those things have a horrible track record for any car running 11's or quicker...when I do my swap it will be atleast a th400 or stronger.
Rick
ps. my car is setup as a drag race car, street driven cause i have to but not very streetable IMO and in almost anyone elses...

I've never had even a split seconds doubt or regret about buying my M6. It's my daily driver, part time road racer, and sometimes drag racer. I don't care if I get stuck in a 3 hr traffic jam, if I get edged out at the strip, bracket racing by an A4, or if I get old and arthritic. I'll still enjoy my coffee on the way to work, talking on the cell phone the whole time, and thanking god that I have an M6 to complete my Vulcan mind link to my car !

cleveland oh to cincinnati oh. roughly 250 miles. less than half a tank of gas. in 6th the whole way and speeds ranged from 70 to 85. so thats averaging above 30mpg.

after putting in my address and the address of the person i was staying with (from memory). it works out to roughly 35.71 mpg. rather amazing isn't it .

That isnt the most exact way to get avg MPG..

I get a receipt from every gas station.. I only fill up.. Never just $5 or $10.. always in the 14 gallon range and always about $20-$22 worth.

I get an average of 18MPG in the city and 24MPG on the highway.

The lowest I have gotten is 16 while all of my others are in the 18's. This Saturday I will do another 500 miles so I will try to beat the 24MPG(80-90mph avg) with a slower cruise of 70mph.

Then I get on a dyno so look for those numbers to be posted this coming sunday! absolutley bone stock.. nothing changed.. NOTHING.. not even free mods.

for the f-body, this 6 speed is the only way to go.. unless you do alot of drag racing(legal or illegal), especially for higher stakes.

Now like for more sedate sedan, I could imagine getting tired of a manual..

psycho, that isn't in anyway an average. was simply offering another testimonial to +30 mpg experience with an ls1. it was 1 trip and ALL highway. i would guesstimate my "average" mpg to be in the really low 20's honestly.

Cool

I personally would not go to an auto....I almost feel like I don't have that much more control over the car. Manual cars tend to get better gas mileage and a little bit more hp from the engine. Plus, I have loved driving cars with manuals since I was 16....they are so much more fun. Get a M6 if you can. Also the manual tranny is literally bullet proof.
