Engine temperature

Engine temperature
I just purchased a 2001 ss lS1 Camaro. It runs very well. The temperature guage reads just under 210 deg. Aprox. the middle
of the gauge. I asked about this and was told that it was normal.
Every vehicle and vessel I own runs around 160 170 deg. I even
get concerned when the two 350 chevy's in my boat get up to 180
The engine gets up to temp fairly quick and is stable once it
gets there. Any input would be greatly apprciated.

The temp gauge in 99 and up f-body's were nothing more than idiot lights dressed up to look like a gauge. Essentially, the factory "programmed" them to sit stationary once the car reaches normal operating temperature. By the way you car has a 195 degree thermostat.

The stock gauge will read the same, little less than 210, if the temp is actually from 170 to about 240. And the thermostat does not determine the engine temperature, just when the coolant is allowed to enter the engine.

yeah, even with the addition of my 160 stat, my guage still reads the exact same when driving. even with my manual fan switch on HI it doesn't move.
kindda annoying. been thinking of installing a dual guage pod with a legit temp guage as one. jsut so i know when i should hit my fans
