Angry engine- DEAR GOD PLEASE HELP ME!!!

A couple hours ago, I was driving my Z when it started making this loud ticking noise all the sudden... I had let the car warm to normal operating temperature because it's about 6 degrees in Peoria right now. The noise sounded almost like a fan blade hitting something, but came more from the rear of the engine.... I quickly got the car back home, no more than 2 min. from where I was. After letting the engine cool down (still thinking it might just be the fan blade or something) I tried to restart the engine... the starter shreiked and nothing in the engine moved.... does anybody have a general idea just how ***KD I am?

Do more recon... grab a big *** wrench, lay under the car, and try and turn the crank... yeah I know its cold, but I just spent all day putting a PS pump in a buddies wrangler, so you can do it (it was 0 when we started, warmed up to 7)

If you cant turn the motor over, then I would drop the starter next. With it being so cold, you could have never disengaged the starter (ice in it does that) so the fan noise was the starter riding along with the motor. Then try and turn it over by hand again. If still no rotation, then I hope for your sake your car is in warranty...

Call up road side assistance, make sure it's full of oil, you have oil change reciept's.

Real simple if it's a 2002......................call the dealer in the morning.

Other than trying to get a rental car out of them, I wouldn't sweat it, let them figure out what the problem is with it.

Is the car a m6? If so did it seem to be shifting properly when you were driving it back home? Maybe something in the bellhousing came apart and was hitting the flywheel.

Just a guess. Good luck.

Talking thanks for the help guys

The cars got 49,000 on it but luckily I got the extended warranty. Had it towed to the dealership last night and am still waiting to hear from them. I was just freaking out last night thinking I'd blew the engine somehow, your responses about the starter or bell housing got me thinking about it, and that's a lot more likely than I was thinking, and easier to take Now I just need to work on that loaner
