Eliminating the converters on an 01 SS?

I am thinking of punching out the converters on my 01 SS. Are there any downfalls to this that i might consider before hand. The reason is mainly for the sound. I have the factory SLP Center Flo exhaust that sounds great but its just too quiet. Thanks for the help.

Are you offering to buy them for me? If I only had one Camaro intead of three a set of off road pipes would not be a problem. I am only looking for a cheap/easy way to wake up the exhaust tone a little untill I can afford to do more. Thanks for the reply.

Tekker, If you read my post and had enuf sense to understand my question then you might have understood that I was asking that question about my 01 Camaro, not a 69. I could tell you just about anything you wanted to know about a 69, I have owned several over the years. I am new to the 4th gen Camaros, my question is simple and streight forward, I would appreciate an equal response.

I was thinking about doing the same thing on my '01 Z28. Not for the sound though. I think to just punch them, you mess up the smoothness of the flow a bit, not sure how this affect performance in this engine. I have heard of people punching them and then putting a piece of pipe through the cat. I know it will make the sound a little more raspy, depending on the exhaust.

Jeremiah, watch your tone.. Geesh.. ya dont have to be an @ss.
anyways, I suggest getting the off road pipes just because why mod half @ssed when you can do it right? Want it louder? Get a cutout.
But really, you are new here and we dont usually badger people that offer help. Just be kewl..

for about eighty bucks...i had a shop replace a resonator with a straight pipe on my old car.

so i'm pretty sure for around a hundred dollars, which really isn't that much at all, you could prolly shop around and find a shop that will replace your cats with straight pipes....

...of course, one way or another, you're gonna have to get o2 simulators i believe...so you're gonna have to be spending some money no matter what.
