Question Dynoed my SS. Got questions?

Hey guys
I got my car dynoed last weekend. They ran it in 4th and 5th gear. When they ran it in 4th, it showed 301.7 hp with 314.8 ft/lbs torque. Well this pissed the mustang guys off, so they insisted that it was the wrong gear and that it needed to be ran in 5th. They insisted that 5th was the 1:1 gear. In 5th it ran 278.something and 290 something ft./lbs. I was just wandering is 4th or 5th the 1:1 gear. I didn't think it made much sense for it to be 5th but I didn't know for sure to shove it in their face. What gear is the one that counts.

Thanks ahead of time,
Mike

4th is 1:1

5th is the overdrive gear, and 6th is the supermegaultra overdrive gear (if you have it)

the mustang guys were wrong, again

For that year car, atleast (not sure if it ever changed)
1st: 2.66
2nd: 1.78
3rd: 1.30
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.74
6th: 0.50

I thought it was kind of funny, even in "overdrive" gear I still killed them. Just thought that was a little humerous.

Thanks

Those Mustang guys are idiots. 4th is definitely the 1:1 gear.

Ha ha! Silly Mustang owners! You probably could have run in 6th gear and still matched or beat there #'s!!!

Yes, 4th gear is the 1:1 for the M6, and 3rd gear is the 1:1 for the A4 tranny.

According to carpoint.com, GTs weigh as much as our cars(about 3,300) and Cobras weigh over 3,600 pounds.

Are LS1s supposed to be dyno'ed in 4th gear?

I got **** poor numbers in my dyno, but it was in 3rd gear (the way I dyno'ed my LT1)......

You Dyno in the 1:1 Ratio Gear.

T-56 = 4th

4L60E = 3rd

Look on the bright side. That explains your crappy numbers.

I knew something was wrong, I've never seen an LS1 dyno that low, no matter what anyone wants to say.

I have an A4 and got 309 RWHP and 325 TQ. Just have an FIPK and a MagnaFlow replacement muffler, not the Cat Back.

Is that with a stock lid and filter and exhaust?

the Dyno should have hooked up to your ignition, and been able to tell what RPM the engine was at, to determine the right gear ratio for the test.

I think i did mine in 3rd gear, IOT to control the maximum drum
speed of the dyno's rollers, but this a Mustang Dynojet, which is abit more complicated than the older style dyno's, and it had alot of computer processing capability.

this is the type dyno they talk on TV, it uses electric force to control the rollers, and can hold the wheels/engine at one speed to troubleshoot driveability and vibration and tuning problems.

remember that the Mustang Dynojet gives much lower #'s than the old style (water brake) dyno's

here's links to my fresh LS1 dyno, like ~1000 miles on the car,

You know ... I can't tell for sure from this conversation ...

Do you have an automatic car or a manual trans car?

I think you have an Automatic, but a couple of times, things you've posted made me unsure.
