dyno tune

For a mostly stock car it's worth it only if it's an A4. It will give you a nice improvement on shifts and SOTP feel. I wouldn't get the HPP3 though. The diablo predator is far better and well worth the extra hundred bucks or so.
You'll be able to adjust shift points, delete TM, evaluate SES codes, delete SES codes and much more. Nice little gadget if you don't have a laptop and or want to invest in LS1-edit. So I would say get the car tuned at a shop if you have an A4 and don't plan to mod it out ever. Get predator or LS1-edit if you have an A4 and plan to mod the car over time.
But if you have an M6 then I would not even worry about a tune unless your unhappy with the top speed governor or plan to upgrade gears and need speedo adjusted.
Just my 2 cents that's probably worth half a cent (Doh!)

Dyno tune is a waste of money on a stock car. It's pointless until you start getting into engine work such as heads/cam/etc. A dyno tune isn't cheap, usually runs around $500, sure, on a stock car you may see a tiny amount of improvement, but I honestly doubt it. The only thing they could really do is take off torque management in your tranny, change shift points, etc, and if you wanna pay $500 for that, knock yourself out.
Now if you're just wanting simple things adjusted, like SES code deletion, and minor adjustments that don't even require being on the dyno, sure, go for it, you don't need a dyno tune when your engine is stock. Most companies outta do simple stuff like that for around $100 or so. Dyno tuning is mainly to work on air/fuel ratios, timing, and more technical stuff after an internal engine part installation to get it running at it's full potential.

Like the other two guys have said, it is pretty much waste of $$$ to dyno tune a stock car.
If you have the $$$ to burn, sure, go ahead, but otherwise I'd just stick with the HPP3 or Predator.
Later!
