The front struts need to removed before the springs can be changed. The struts come out pretty easily - upper a arm and all. Once the struts are out you can rent a spring compressor or have a shop swap the springs. It is alot easier with pneumatic tools. If you have never replaced a spring on a macpherson strut before it may be better to let a pro do it. Springs can be deady of they cut loose.

I would guess 1 hour at the going shop rate like $75-100 if you brought them the struts out of the car already. If your lucky you might find a shop that will do it for 1/2hour labor because thats about how long it really takes.

$150 is a good price if they take the shock/spring assembly out of the car and put it back.
You will also need an alignment when you lower the car.
If you are set on doing it yourself, you can look at page 6 of my website... I have some info that might help you.
Good luck
Dave
