As you can see, the 01-02 cars definitely have an advantage, even though they have a smaller cam. However, once you start upgrading an LS1 and swap out all the parts that are different, the playing field becomes even and no year has the advantage...
From what I've read, the 'smaller' LQ4 Vortec 6000 truck cam actually increased horsepower in the '01s & '02s:

This is one topic that has beat to hell and back, almost everyday someone asks this question, Ofcourse the general rule is the newer car you buy the more improved it is.

This is true, however, this thread was referring to F-bodies, so i left out the fact that the C5 LS1 intake also does not have EGR. What I was trying to prove is that if you have an 01 - 02 LS1 F-body, and you do not have EGR, then you have the LS6 intake. All LS1s that came in an F-body had EGR.

Look at the URL of that link. Not trying to flame, but that is a GM Media document that they came up with. We all know we can't trust the advertised HP of LS1 equipped cars, and we all know that as a general rule the 01-02 cars put down a little more power, but it is not because of the smaller cam, no matter what some GM propaganda says.

Very true. With the exception of the 99 cars, it seems that GM kept making them better each consecutive year.
