Does anyone here run the 221/221 grind anymore?

Does anyone still run this cam? I know MTI quit offering it, and by today's standard's it is on the small side, but I would like to know if anyone still runs one or did at one time.

Mine is still yet to be installed in my M6 daily driver.

Thanks guys.

I ran the T1 for a couple of years. A real nice streetable cam that will make good power without having to rev to 7 grand. It's now in a friends car and he made 382 rwhp with Kooks longtubs, off road y-pipe, LS6 intake, BBK throttle body, ported MAF, and an open Borla. That's it.

I made 364 rwhp with headers, no cats, and a pulley.

It's a really nice cam. You'll like it. I'd recommend the T1 over the B1 just because it sounds better.

I run this cam with TEA stage 2 6.0L heads, 90/90, FLP's, poolie, 12 bolt(3.90) and a RR/AutoX suspension setup. 11.99@116 with a 1.71 60' and I was having issues with it going into gear.

It made 420rwhp with the heads, ls1 intake, poolie, FLP's, cutout, stock rearend and no tune.

i'm hoping to get a 11.6 out of it later tonight when I go to the track.

wow...that's more than i expected out of that cam.

with heads i would have only figured around 400rwhp.

420 is more than the TR224 gets typically when tuned with ported heads.

I need to see what I'm making with the 90/90, 12 bolt, and tuning on the dyno.

I'm going to the track tonight. I'm hoping I got my tranny issues worked out and I can make a 11.6 pass.

Is this the 114LSA or the 112LSA variant? I purchased the 114. My car is also a standard. I have a "bolt-on" tune with omitted emmissions, higher RPM range, 1000rpm idle, etc. I'm hoping it runs fine without any additional tuning, and I'm rather sure it will, but please comment on how your car handles the 221.

These "little" cams are highly under rated. There are several guys on tech that have made similar bolt on numbers.

You'll never see the numbers as shown above w/out tuning for that cam though.

The guy above posting said he had "no tune".

Don't expect that to be the norm.

Yeah, go over to ls1sounds.com. You'll have to search around for a while, but there is this cam on both 112 and 114 lobe seperation angles.

I think this may require starting your own thread LOL! Please, do just that and start your own.

Not trying to be a *****, just trying to get info on my cam from people who are running it.

I was using the T1 which is the 112 lsa. The B1 has the 114 lsa. I also used nitrous with the T1 and it liked it. The only thing I really did when I installed the T1 was to drill the throttle body blade out a bit to help it idle a little better. It took a bit of driving before the car learned the new cam enough that it didn't want to die when coming to a stop. I had to get a tune because I was running extremely rich after doing headers and the cam. There also was some bucking and surging until I got tuned. You certainly can drive the car without a tune but it will have some small issues. Since you have the 114 lsa, I doubt you'll have much problems since it idles much better than the T1.

The thing I liked most about the T1 was how the power band started really low, around 2500. It began to pull like a freight train at 3K. It was almost like someone threw a switch. It kind of made me think of a small nitrous shot.
