Different oil for racing all day?
Different oil for racing all day?
My club is having an all day track event on Sunday. I expect no less than 25 runs (at least). I need an oil change anyway, but I was wondering if I should bump up to a 10w30 over my usual 5w30 because of the extended racing. Any info or suggestions helps. thanks

The number before the "w" is the room temperature weight, or "pour weight". The number after the w is the hot weight. I would worry more about breakdown if it will be hot than being too thin. I run Mobil 1 for track events where I am running on a road course WOT, hard on the brakes or mid turn for 25 minutes at a time, four times a day, sometimes in July in Dallas. 25 1/4 mile passes in a day should be easy,
Not really disagreeing w/chuck.Just want to share some advise I got today for what ever its worth
I was having some questions about my car recently some things made sounds at WOT to make it short.Earlier thread no1 helped with
So I took my car to Jamora Racing here in town to have him take a hear/look at it. It turns out there is nothing wrong with my car
He used to build engines for Big Daddy Don back in the day btw.
To the point he was giving me advise on the car and told me that it would be a good thing to maybe look at some 10w-40 synthetic if I was to be rompin it at times especially in the heat we have here.Verses the 5w-30 Mobil 1 I have been runnin. Anybody have thoughts on that? I'm thinkin maybe Red Line has some 10-40 or maybe some Castrol.
He also thinks I may have messed the gaps on the plugs up and to pull them and recheck

You'd be safe staying with whatever you run now. Synthetic oil doesn't break down. However, if you wanted to switch to 10w-30, that'd be fine too. I use 5w-30 since I'm in Illinois and we go below zero several times per year. I think the car's manual actually recommends 10w-30 for your climate.

Change it before you go (and throw a new set of plugs in) and then change it at it's normal interval.
