Didn't know a fuel filter could make so much difference.

I've had a new fuel filter sitting around for a couple weeks now. I meant to put it on earlier in the month but it was too cold. Today was nice, so I installed it. And instantly I noticed a smoother idle. Also, the gas pedal was a tad more touchy. So I did what anyone else would do. Came to a stop in a parking lot, and floored it. It actually spun the tires. I know that is nothing big with a ls1, but since I bought it, all I could get it to do was just a little squeal. Now it leaves 2 distinct patches. I just thought it was because of the numerically low gears, 2.73.

My car only has just over 34k miles. Was it time to change it or did the previous owner just use crappy gas?

I don't know but I think I may change mine now. I have a little over 60k on mine and I don't know if it has been changed. I do know it hasn't been changed in the past 11k miles.

My experiances as a military mechanic we change the fuel filters on our vehicles about every 10K or so..... that is also what I do with mine... crappy gas or not.

i am trying to figure out why you have a 2.73 unless it has been changed you should have atleast 323 or 342 thought they switched to those standard in 98 i may be wrong anyone else can chime in.

BTW, it does tell you in the owner's manual to change the fuel filter every 10k miles. The Z71 I mentioned had over 50k.

People forget how important a fuel filter is, and what a dramatic improvement it can make.

I keep meaning to replace mine. I know it hasn't been changed in 30K, and probably hasn't been changed in the 62K miles on the car.

My wife's Intrigue has 30K on it, so I guess I'll just do both of them this weekend.

Hello, Autozone? ....

Hey guys
Well, im kinda new to the ls1, and its too cold to go look right now... So, where esactly is the fuel filter at on this engine? And how hard is it to replace? I know some cars ive done it on were way easier than other, not to mention cheaper. How much do they cost for the ls1? Thanks

Hey there,

They are located around the driver side rear fender area. They will cost you around $10-15 depending on where you buy it. You can get one at AutoZone

It isn't hard, but expect about 30 min. or so. Just relieve the pressure by removing the gas cap, and wear some safety glasses!

Shouldn't take long!

i just did mine, not too bad..

When I was taking the plastic fuel line off, i bent the line a bit, like kinked it, but it popped back in place.. it looks fine as far as I can see, and feels fine on the other side... car runs great, I don't see any problems.. Do I have to worry about it?

I need to replace the fuel filters on the SS, WS6 and Z28. Are you all using the GM filters or aftermarket units?
