if it went into gear, it woulda revved that high. the stock tach is very very slow to update itself. ir : i shift from 1 to 2 at about 5700 rpm on the tach and when i ran a couple runs back to back logging with my buddies atap it showed i was shifting at 6200 rpm. that shows how good the stock tach is

Is everyone sure we aren't causing him excess worries? I mean really think about it, there would be alot of bent push rod LS1's running around if they were that easy to bend. People who have no clue beat there LS1's harder than we do.

Yea, you are probably right except that I would rather be safe than sorry.

Okay, so let's say his motor isn't making any noise, it's running fine, but pull it apart anyways just so it doesn't start making noise eventually?! That's dumb. If it starts making noise, then yeah, I guess it might need a push-rod or two, but until then, the most I would do is a compression test........if it has good compression in all cylinders, and there is no valvetrain noise, then there's nothing wrong with the engine.

mine has ticking as you all say. We had a post on this b4 about the ticking after warm up. I to thought that hey somethings wrong..i work at a dealership..and had one of my heavy technicians come and listen to it..he just kinda chuckled and said its gms famous engine noise..just get used to it.
Car has no lost power anywhere..up high down low or anything..but the ticking is rather annoying. IM sure many people will step in here and say they 2 have ticking. I agree with cody..if it was that easy to bend a push rod..thered be a ton of LS1's running around with um.

what does it usually cost to replace pushrods?

there probably are a lot of ls1's around with bent pushrods. but yea if it is still running fine don't worry about ripping it all apart. my case was pretty much the worst case scenario.

mine ticks and i read it will tick if you don't replace the egr gaskets and i didn't, that and the valvetrain noise. annoying but i don't think it has really done anything negative.

a buddy spun his to 8200rpm a few times and always to 7400...... you shouldn't have much a of problem but incase u might, take ur pushrods out and see if they are bent (roll em on a glass table)

first and foremost, don't worry, we have ALLLLLL done it before and its part of owning a race car, you might hafta get ur hands dirty but it feels REALLY good knowing you can work on it.

Heh oh Ive owned plenty of race cars before (I blew my TTA's tranny up at over 100 mph at E-Town... THAT was scary), just never had an LS1.... or anything newer than 1991 for that matter LOL. So I'm just not used to OBDII or seeing so much electronics on a motor, or having to reach into my cars nether regions to get at the back of my motor lol.

I planned on NOT touching this motor if at all possible since I went down from multiple cars to just this one (financial reasons) so since I f'ed with all my other cars and they of course broke alot (22lbs of boost Vs stock tranny = BOOM!), I figure my daily driver... leave it alone!

BTW Mine makes a lot of noise ... as they all do, but nothing i would define as ticking (or maybe... bad ticking)

hey..well if this makes you feel any better..i had a freind with a 00 Z28...whose driver side floor matt got bunched up and was holdin the pedal down..needless to say when he started it up..i was on the other side of the Wendy's parkin lot and i heard "RRAAAAA TA TA TA TA TA TA" and i was thinking "who the hell is that moron hittin the rev limiter" and sure enough my freind comes rollin around..white as a ghost!, i thought he'd just seen god..and for like the next 2 weeks he would just randomly pop the hood and listen..he was so paranoid..that was at 39K miles..he now has like 77K miles and nothing has ever been apart..and the car still runs great..so maybe that will make ya feel a little bit better

that woudl be just from hitting the rev limiter, not over revving the engine.

Well from what i've been taught..you never ever rev an engine to redline with no load...and especially to the rev limiter..to me, thats over revving an engine with no load..
