Re: Descreening the MAFS?

Good point bet you could do LCAs and the Airlift for less than the cost of a MAF. If you have added weight in the car in the form of a stereo or something you can use both airbags and just plumb them with seperate valves so you can offset the pressure at the track and use them at even pressure to correct ride height and firm up the rear the rest of the time.

I always say, if you're staying stock or stockish, leave it alone. If you plan on doing at least a cam, you could probably benefit a little bit by taking the screen off. If you're going further into modding, maybe pick up ported MAF ends (Thunder Racing has nice ones). I would vote to leave the MAF itself alone, the stock one is fine, and if you touch the sensors inside of it you're going to have a real bad day

The best thing to do to your stock MAF sensor is nothing. We've made over 500rwhp with a stock screened maf naturally aspirated, and 840+rwhp with a stock screened maf turbocharged.

And a "good" tuner cannot correctly tune for a ported MAF sensor, as it doesn't just ruin the calibration, but it also makes it very inconsistent.

That's correct. The intake tract between the MAF and the throttle body on the Corvette is so short and straight that the GM engineers decided that the flow-straightening screen was not required.

Personally, I bought a pair of stock MAF ends. I ported them and have one stock and one ported set. When it was all said and done, I ended up with the stock end on the incoming side, complete with screen. I have the ported end behind the MAF to give an unobstructed air path to the throttle body.

Another DO NOT reply! I was at the track this weekend and to make a long story short...my car sucked up my airlid seal. If not not for the screen I would be tearing my beloved motor apart right now. Let face it, it's there for a reason. Save up and buy parts that actually make a difference instead of these weird little "free mods"
