Cylinder 1 misfire, whats wrong with this thing??? 2002 Z06 PCV valve???
I just took my car out of storage a week ago, and ive got trouble. It was misfiring before i stored it, and so i take it out for the first time and everything is fine. Then about 10 minutes later the check engine light comes on and starts flashing. The car was really doggin from idle to about 2-3k, then out of nowhere it picks up the cylinder and takes off. it was idling rough too. so i change all the plugs with NGK TR6's gapped at .034. I also have MSD wires that i bought last season. i take it home and play with the plug wires on the drivers side, and it ran fine the next time i started it up and the light went out. i took it up to autozone where they told me there was a misfire in the #1 cylinder. they cleared the codes and i went on my way for the light to just come back on the next day. so i take it back up to Autozone and its still the #1 cyl. I bought some di-electric gel and threw that in the boot of the plug wire and the light went off in about 5 minutes. Then the next day it came back on. My man at Ramchargers was telling me that i might want to change my PCV valve with one from a 2002 Z06. Supposedely the valving in the Z06 is better and faster. I guess the LS1 PCV's can't keep up and are causing problems on 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 truck motors. So I bought the Z06 PCV and put it in last night and there wasnt any change. And the Z06 PCV has a small hole drilled in the bottom of it and no visible moving parts? I dont really see how it flows better, but whatever. Still have my SES light on, same code, but no loss in power. What the hell is wrong with this thing?
I think the PCV problem was an oil consumption concern. How did your spark plug look? If it is running rich you may have a bad injector. It may get worse when hot. Have the fuel system balance tested when acting up. If you have the time, switch the inj. with one on a different cyl. and see if the problem follows the injector. Good luck.
i had the exacy same problem...misfiring....it is because your nitrous solenoid went bad
it doesnt pick up its major power till about 2700rpm right....try to unplug your nitrous from the fuel line and cap it....that should take car of it....it would help if u can get a hold of autotap....but that will stop the loss of hp

Why would a bad nitrous selenoid make my car misfire? Im pretty sure its either a wire,, rod, or valve spring. Right now its still got power everywhere, im just getting the cyl 1 misfire. Ill test the wries this weekend. The nitrous has never stayed open though.
This weekend im going to switch the plug wires and see if the misfire follows the wire. Other than that, i may change the plug. I dont see how gas can even be an issue when i havent sprayed in about 6 monthes. I can see the fuel pressure is right at 57psi when the cars running. im going to change my fuel filter, but why would something like that only affect one cylinder? Maybe the injector is clogged. Any suggestions on how to clean them? just fuel injector cleaner? maybe ill throw some acetone in the tank to get out any water and clean the crap out. I think it may be more mechanical though, spring/pushrod. $hit!!!

if its not that then u probably have a bent push rod....but try that first

I think im still missing something here. Why would the line affect anything at all? Why should I even waste the time?

Dude, you came on this site asking for advice. Stik6shift98 gave you some advice, which apparently solved the problem for his car. Maybe he told you to try it because it isn't a waste of time.

and asainice....do u wanna go change pushrods and valves or unscrew a lil line....
i cam onto the boards and asked eveyone about why my cars misfiring and everyone said thats most likely pushrods then a wise man came along and said that he had the same proib and it had to do with his nitrous....so i am doing u a favor by telling you that it could very well be that....and plus why question good advice when all it is is unscrewing a line....its not like i told you to go change your cam or something.....
well, i appreciate the advice, but i also want to know why that would cause anything like that? I can see how the fitting on the rail is right by the #1 cyl, but it seems like it would only mess something up if a silenoid was leaking or something. Yesterday i switched the wires and it still came up as a cylinder 1 misfire. there was also another code po420 which said something about catalyst inefficiency. I'll look up the code later on, but i had them clear everything, and i drove home and the light never came on. this weekend ill pull the #1 plug and take a look. ill unhook the line and see whats going on if the light comes back on. StickShift, what did you do about your nitrous anfter unhooking the fuel line fixed the problem? new fuel pump?
OK, so i took the Z out once this weekend, and the check engine light came on once again. The misfire code is now gone
i dont know why or how, but it is, so im not going to complain. now i have a new code...PO420: catalyst inefficiency. So why would this make my car misfire? I was told that after the install of the new pcv that my car would probably be shooting black crap out for a week, but i didnt really notice that. the cars not boggin down either. i guess ill deal with it untill i put on the new mac's w/ off-road pipe and get some codes deleted. heads and cam are going in too, i hope the problem is gone.

Check this out...I took the 2002 pcv valve out last night and put in a new 2001 camaro one back in. I started it up, and then about 1 minute later it starts missin like crazy. I take it out for a sec, and its just dropping cylinders like crazy. I never had it scanned because i didnt want to take it anywhere. So i switch the PCV back with the Z06 model, and drive it around for a sec and everything is fine. Whats the deal? I had a PO420 catalyst inefficiency code, and then a cylinder 1 misfire before that. Now i think i have both. What do you guys think? maybe I need new Oxygen Sensors??? Either way I think im going to put new one in this weekend. Anything else i should check???
I was having a similar problem with cyl. missfire, and I changed out the front 02's and it is now running better but it still ideals alittle off, I might be because I don't have any backpressure but I'm still trying to figure it out. But if I was you that would be the next thing I'd try.
