custom exhaust cutout question

ok heres what I did since i was bored. I cut out an angle piece just before the muffler on the pipe where there is a gap on top. I cut a half circle. So right now instead of having a piece stick out, i have a half circle piece cut from the actual exhaust pipe before the muffler. I created another half circle piece from another exhaust pipe and inserted hinges on it and connected a piece of wire to that piece in order to manually controll the cutout.

Question. How is this differerent from the other cutout that has a piece sticking out where you can put a cap on it and it will be regular. My design just has a hole on the muffler just like what the other one would accomplish..

Pros and cons please people help before i kill myself and redo the entire exhaust

Thanks

might be a little less flow than a regular cutout, since yours is only a half circle. but other than that, it sounds pretty much the same. you may run into some troubles trying to cap it with no leaks using the hinged setup you mentioned.

well ya it is only a half circle, when the cap is closed all the way it has a lil bit of leak but that much doesnt bug me. I just needed to know if a full cutout like the ones they sell or make is about the same idea as this one.

And another thing, when the cutout is installed, when the rpm goes below 1500 there is sort of a ringing noise coming from the actual hole i made in the pipe. Is that normal??

it's the same basic idea. if i understand correctly where you installed it (right before muffler entrance), it sounds the same as most custom installations. most of the premade cutouts get installed on the I-pipe right upstream of where it goes over the axle. that's where mine's installed, and i don't hear any ringing noise coming from it.

There are always punks who badmouth cutouts. A friend of mine keeps dissing mine even though I have taken the car to the track ran it with it open, closed, and open again, and the open runs always yeilded a .2 improvement in times. They're just out to annoy you because theyre jealous that theyre car doesnt sound as nice.
