Definetly cheaper when u do both at the same time. Been quoted a wide range for JUST the cam, was 600-1000 at different shops...

So im guessing its at least 750ish if at a shop. Could even be over a grand. Just depends what the going rate is at your state/area. on the side it'll be cheaper obviously...

Such a large range. I just want to make sure the shop I talk to doesn't bend me over.

I just got a quote last night for a 2001 T/A: $1,500

That includes a custom grind CompCams FULL KIT ($750 is the cost of parts in the kit). It also includes porting the heads and installing a set of headers.

It does not include the cost of the headers though ... but as long as the heads are off, if I bring a set of headers, he'll throw them on for me.

Now, this is a guy who does this in his home, so your results may vary. To have a shop do this, they have to charge more for overhead. This guy gets the car on a Friday night and has it ready for pickup on Sunday afternoon. And he does EXCELLENT work. Ask around. If you're in a local car club, they will know who does good work for the best price. If you're not in a local car club .... find one and ask them.

I see you are a fellow San Diegan. I'm sure you are framiliar with California's CARB restrictions on mods.
Since you are inquiring about the cost of Heads and cam work, I am wondering if you have found a package that is CARB emissions legal? Have you found a local shop to do this?

Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

From what I understand, the cam is what you have to watch out for. The TR 224 with a LSA 114 seems to be the largest one that can pass smog with good tuning.

Andy's Auto is one place in LA. I do have a local Camaro member that can do it in San Diego.

Thanks for the help Ed

I am guessing your local Camaro member is a "private" shop?

Thanks again
