No it's not smaller it's a 3" I-pipe which is the same as everbody else - other than Muffelex - uses. It then splits into two 2.5" chambered exhuasts, which actually outflow a 3.5" equivalent ... M

IMHO, Corsa isnt worth it on an LS1. Im on my second Z28. the first was a 94 LT1 with Corsa exhaust and premium tips (bought it that way ).....if u want a mean sounding LT1 corsa is your catback but the LS1 is by nature quieter for one reason or another . my LS1 Z has stock exhaust from the cat forward and sounds GREAT with an SLP loudmouth....i get nothing but compliments on both but in my opinion Corsa is for LT1s....on an LS1 id say SLP LM but im biased....

if u do get the corsa go with the cheaper tips they are the same length its just that the pro series arent polished all the way back no other difference...

BTW...i forgot which person said it but YES the corsa catback sounds terrible on C5s. this is becasue corvette exhaust is COMPLETELY different. dual pipes back flowing into dual mufflers with two outlets on each, nothing like an F-body.....NO f-body will sound buzzy or "non-V8ish" with corsa exhaust....

Physical, tangible evidence that I can show you here? Not offhand, I dont have any. I do have some track experience though...

I had a friend who had a V6, then later did his LS1 swap. Basing my assumption off of your username, you're probably familiar with the V6 exhaust setup. He had a muffler shop make him a 3" "S" pipe. Problem is, it was crush bent, and at the time of his swap, we cut it apart and measured the diameter of the bend.

It barely measured 2 inches. Which explains why he only ran 15.2s in a convertered and stripped car, with good 60' times.

To the guy who was putting a cutout on his Borla... why?!?!!? You're entire exhaust system is a cutout when you run it with no plate. Literally.

Borla may do it for you guys, but I can't stand it. Especially on modified cars, it is the WORST sound ever on heads/cam cars.

Corsa has fixed their muffler issue, and if your system breaks they cover the cost of shipping and give you a free new one. The problem was fixed a few months ago though.

OMG you guys are saying it sounds horrible on a C5 It sounds EXOTIC, like a C5 should be. The idle sound (like a motorboat) is fixed with an X pipe.

C5 with Corsa sounding horrible

Loudmouth? No thanks, drone city! And talk about a rasp machine when you add headers. Good God!

Flowmaster also LOSES power on the LS1 cars. Do a search on LS1Tech for proof of that. I'm talking 50rwhp losses on highly modified cars, literally. Dyno proven, cutout gave 50rwhp over the Slowmaster catbacks. What a joke!

i completely agree..i have the corsa system on my 96 T/A LT1 and i couldnt be happier..its good and quiet at idle but still has a slight throaty tone to it..and when you whomp on it she completely opens up and roars..i heard a corsa on an ls1 a few weeks back..and i must say..the corsa system was made for the LT1 because the LS1 version just doesnt have as much roar to it. sorry i cant really help ya on your new car but maybe this helps =)

All that said, can you quantifiy the difference in flow characterics between mandrel bent or other wise?? Everybody - vendor's in particular - is hyping mandrel bend as flowing so much better, but I've never seen anyone produce any emperical data that actually proves such ... M
I agree. I've never seen any hard data on this. All I know is in my 70 SS 350 I ran a 12.90 w/a crush bend system. I imagine if a complete mandrel bent system gives you 10 hp over stock you may lose 2hp for it being crush bend.

On topic though, the Corsa tips look nice. I've never heard their system though. I have heard magnaflow and they sound good. You can also pick up a stainless catback magnaflow system for under $400 at http://www.exhaustproslinc.com/camarofirebird.html
I'm not big on the tips, but that can always be changed.

I got a Corsa and I love it. I did get an electric cut out as well. Some people think it is sick to cut up a $700 cat back but I did it anyway. A lot of people have commented how mean it sounds with the valve open. It can get annoying so recently I have been running with the valve closed. It helps with gas mileage and low end power too. I say go for the Corsa. The Borla is a good set up too.

Very little drone in 1st and 2nd gears otherwise quite tolerable. I didn't want the loud I can hear you coming from the next town sound, but still wanted to sound like a force to be reconed with when I hit the gas. I got both.

Wow, thanks again for all the replies!!! This really has me thinking though... I've considered Borla, but i'm not too into their sound as much as I used to be (I wanted one so bad for my IROC, but i've since moved). I too would like to do an electric cutout, but i'm not sure. The car will be my daily driver, and I drive 40 miles one way to work each morning, so I don't want to deal with it ALWAYS being loud, nor do I care for the cracking and popping when you get off the gas with the Loudmouth.

I love the sound of the Corsa on the Corvette. The Pace Car catback is SICK . That's the sound I want as it sounds exotic and mean and the same time. If Corsa is as close to that as it comes without all the resonance (i'm starting to sound like an old man), that's the system I need! I just wish they'd have a clip of the launch on their site. I must add that the LT1 system sounds incredible too, as does that Viper hehehe

I agree with slvrbird2000, good information there. The Corsa, Borla, and GMMG are probably the best premium systems out their. Corsa claims 14 rwhp on their site. I have nort seen any claim by the other two personally but that could be my research before purchasing a system didn't lead me in the right direction. The Corsa fits very well, looks great, and is very high quality (304 ss). Sound is ones preference and you will receive a plethora of opinions on that one...judge the sound yourself and don't rely on opinions from the boards. I went with the Corsa for quality, fit, sound, and the fact that I can build the car further...headers...cam/heads and I will know it will only sound better while other catbacks will progressively get worse in sound quality. I won't name the ones that will, it will just create flames.

IMO it is not worth $700. I am sure it is well made, besides the muffler, which they are fixing. I am just not a fan of the sound, but I am not after an exotic sound. It is mostly personal preference. Nothing sounds as good as duals.

The Corsa is worth it if it is worth it to YOU.

Personally, I think it sounds kinda weak on an LS1(like most other systems). I don't care for that higher-pitched sound.

The SLP LM sounds just like a pick-up truck with straight pipes to me(very unrefined with no tone). A cheap $30 cutout acheives the same sound quality.

And I totally agree with that other guy who said Borla sounds awful on any F-body with headers, no cats, and heads/cam. Not a good sound at all.

The only cat-back that I think actually makes an LS1 F-body sound like a muscle car is the GMMG Chambered Exhaust. I've had it on two LS1's now and no other cat-back I've had or heard compares IMO. Only thing that sounds a little better is a true dual exhaust, but I just don't like the idea of dumping it underneath the car without any tips coming out the rear.

But with that said, get the Corsa if that's what you want. Just go with whatever makes you happy.

Mike

I've only heard the GMMG from their website, which isn't a very good demonstration, so maybe it sounds better than I am hearing. Anyone have any better clips?

The way it sounds on their site is the way it'll sound on your stock LS1.

In fact, besides the first clip, here are four others that are of otherwise stockish LS1's with just the GMMG cat-back. Again, this is what their exhaust sounds like in person(but obviously, it sounds EVEN better in person ). Besides, these clips sound pretty damn good to me compared to some of the others I've heard on the net.

Thanks for the sound clips 2000LS1Z28. That's not bad at idle, but i'm not too fond of it at WOT, especially at the higher rpms. So I will be going with the Corsa and saving $100 and getting the regular tips. Thanks for all the opinions! Keep them coming too...
