cooling
cooling
I have a few questions about cooling for an 02 trans am, first off can anyone recommend a transmission cooler for the 4l60? and secondly i've heard that switching to a 160 degree thermostat is no good without a manual fan control switch i have a programmer that lets you reset the computer to a lower temperature rating i really don't want to install a manual fan but i'd like the car to run colder.
Re: cooling
the "a 160 degree thermostat is no good without a manual fan control switch" is
you will benefit form the lower stat whenever you are driving. the only time the switch comes in handdy is at the track when you are sitting still, ie...no air over the radiator.
when sitting in traffic the stock settings are more than addiquat to keep the engine out of danger.
as for lower fan settings, they are helpful but not needed either. since you're car will be operating with them off while driving around. the only time they will come into play would be traffic...and who cares about the extra 5hp when sitting in rush hour traffic?
the fan settings can help at the track as well, but is still no totally needed.
put the stat in, and since you have the programmer, change the fan settings to 185 on, and 180 off...or so...you'll be fine
