Coolant/Leak-Adding "the stuff"
Coolant/Leak-Adding "the stuff"
Guys I need some help! There are two type of cooling systems used on the LS1. The LS1 F-body has the has removalble radiator cap..makes adding and checking easy. The LS1 in the Y-body has a sealed radiator and a "pressure tank".
I got a small leak that I want to make a quick repair-by adding the stop leak stuff. Just need to get me buy for a short time. (ususally don't add this stuff)
My question IS how can you add this stop leak to a cooling system similar to the one in a Y-body? Throwing it into the pressure/overflow tank will do nothing!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Coolant/Leak-Adding "the stuff"
The 01 Grand Am has a pressure tank system. I put stop leak in the pressure tank of ours and it worked. Ran that stuff for over 3 years of high milage driving. The car now has just shy of 150k miles and stays cool. Only thing I had to do to the cooling system was replace the t-stat around 130k miles. Thats besides normal maintenance. I won't run Dexcool 5 yrs 150k miles just like I won't run platinum plugs 100k miles. I've even ran a mix of Dexcool and conventional antifreeze for most of it's life.
Ok, so you just poured it all in there when the engine was running and then just drove it?
I don't see what the advantage is of this system. Just put a cap on the radiator!

Re: Coolant/Leak-Adding "the stuff"
Normally those caps come off with a pair of channl locks, haven't seen the one on the Y body so I say "normally. If you're concerned you could also pull the upper radiator hose off, let a little fluid out and pour it in there?
