Cons of Free Ram Air Mod

lol, just curious as to why you would drive it through tall grass.

I've only taken it to the fishing hole once. Never again.

And as far as the SSRA, I would always leave out the rubber strip that blocks the stock inlet unless you were going to the dragstrip. IMHO you could just put the same strip in a car with FRA and get the same amount of ram air effect. You will never see any gain from this mod on the dyno. However, I have no doubt that it does free up the path of air coming into the intake allowing a cooler, less restricted flow of air to the intake. Next time I go to the drag strip I think I'll make a plate to seal off the FRA mod and alternate runs with it on and off to see if there is any difference at higher speeds. Don't hold your breath though. I never go to the track. But colder weather is here, so you never know.

I A-tapped my car at the track this fall trying to troubleshoot something. I noticed that with the free ram air mod, I was sitting at the staging lane with 65deg F ambient air, and the IAT was seeing 142deg F (imagine what that difference means in terms of spark advance/detonation). As someone said, at a roll with a sealed airbox you would see some gains, but at a dead stop, that's another story.
Needless to say after that, I upgraded to the WS-6 lower airbox, and used single sided 1/2" foam sealing tape and sealed the connection between my airbox and aftermarked ram air hood. IAT temps are almost a match to ambient temps now.
Just my 2 cents, but that's what you asked for.

Well, after reading everyone's opinions on this, it doesn't sound like it's worth it. I kind of figured that the gains would be very minimal from removing that small piece of plastic anyway. It also rains a lot here in FL during the summer and I don't want to take the chance of getting any water in my engine.
Thanks again for the input guys.
