I DID read your posts. Stop pretending to not understand

And no, you can't tell if someone is lying or not, on the internet.

How would that convo go?

You: What is the EXACT code that the car has?
Him: Code ## (which turns out to be the correct code, for an EGR problem)
You: How did you find it?
Him: Using Autotap (or some other way that works)
You: Excellent! You gave a response that actually works! I'll be right over to pick up the car!

Now.. he could have easily lied.. hell, he owns a car with 200k + miles on it. If he's the original owner, then that's enough time to get familiar with the car, and understand how to diagnose it, and work your way around the car..

Perhaps he told the truth, great! But since there's no tone of voice, or anything there's no way to tell if he's lying, since all it is, is TEXT. No voice modulation, or ANYTHING.

why are you making up stuff that i didn't say? if you want to continue this huge pissing match we seem to be in (really over nothing), then i suggest, once again, that you READ MY POSTS CAREFULLY. i never said you could tell he was lying. i said you could IDENTIFY ANY FISHY RESPONSES HE GAVE YOU. if he gave the responses that you so boldly mention, then great, he may be telling the truth and the buyer would be no worse off for the asking.

i assume the 'You' in the fake conversation from your post is actually you, evilace, since i would definitely not go buy the car if he gave me a legitimate response (once again, SOMETHING I NEVER SAID). JUST MORE INFORMATION TO HAVE WHEN MAKING THE DECISION WHETHER OR NOT TO BUY IT. if he gave a non-legitimate response, then forget about the car. if he gives a legitimate response, you're no worse off then you were before you asked.

PLEASE, READ THIS CAREFULLY, BEFORE PUTTING ANY MORE WORDS IN MY MOUTH. THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS.

hey, wait, i know, you're the seller and you're trying to convince this guy NOT to ask for the codes, cos you just made up the EGR stuff. that's the only logical explanation i can come up with...

That was interesting. Thanks for the responses though guys. I asked him what the Code was. If he tells me, I'm going to ask him how he obtained it. I really have no clue what an EGR valve even is . What is a good site that I can go to, to look up the code #. Also, what is a good product to buy so that I can look up future codes on any future Camaro I may have?
Thanks again guys!

EGR = exhaust gas recirculation
it takes exhaust gases from the exhaust pipe, and brings it back into the piston.. it's supposed to help burn any unburnt gas... for cleaner emissions.

note: '01 and '02 camaros had a different cam, which somehow eliminated the need for the EGR system.. so they don't have any EGR crap

as for the other questions.. not real sure

So I could actually just get a cam from an '01 or '02 and throw away the EGR valve?

as far as my knowledge goes, i think you'd have to edit the car's chip, and tell it the EGR is gone.. maybe some other stuff..

you can get rid of your EGR stuff, anyways, without changing cams.. depends if you NEED it for emissions inspections...

I don't know all the details.. register at
www.ls1tech.com

They're a site.. specifically for LS1 F-bodies (98-2002 Camaros/Firebirds)

If you remove the EGR, 2 things will happen.

The computer will sense that the EGR system is not ready when it does a start up test and throw a code, an SES light.

Second, there will be this huge hole in the top of the intake, just behind the throttle body. Not good.

Trust me ... there are literally thousands of discarded EGR set ups out there that people have discarded when installing an LS6 intake. Getting your hands on an EGR set up will be no problem.

But, getting back to the car, the bidding is up to almost $5K ... I honestly don't think a car with that kind of mileage is worth that much.

You canget same year model cars with 1/2 that mileage for $8-9K. Hell, 97/98 C5s can be had in the mid teens, now.

Don't bother with that price and mileage. YOu can find a way better deal.

Here is a '99 with 52,000 miles.

Good luck finding one and you'll love it when you finally get it !!

Exactly. If I were you, I'd keep looking.

The reason I'm looking into this one inparticular is because of the high milage. A car with half as many miles as this car might have been from a lot of city driving too. Where-as with this one, you KNOW all of that is from highway driving. So the high milage LS1 here might be in better condition than a high milage LS1 w/ half the miles. If that makes any sense? Plus I want an LS1 for no more than 10K, because thats about all I can afford at the time until I get a new job. I'm just looking for transportation. And its close, so I can just drive over there and pick it up, without spending $500 for shipping.

I just don't want to be stuck with a car that is going to cost more to repair than it will to finance.

Again, thanks for the replies guys, keep them coming. Am I an idiot? Let me know

your highway idea does seem accurate..
a highway run car would have less wear, in that amount of time, than a city one, with the same miles..

simply because of many many factors..
even better chances of the car having less wear, if the car wasn't BEAT ON and raced 24/7.

But.. if you're truely looking for a cheap car.. you could still go with a 97 camaro... doesn't have the LS1 engine, but LT1 is still fast. a huge price difference from 97->98, too, I believe.. a 97 would be a lot less expensive, in theory.. unless people over-charge

Go to E-Bay and search for item #'s 2450307085 and 2450308264
They are being auctioned by Colo. state patrol and are B4C's which is the z-28 police package. I bought mine there and is a super car even with 102k miles. Lots of miles in a short time but taken care of.
This is my third Colo. State camaro and they all have been great cars.
Just my $.02 worth
