What Al means (without his being friendly by elaborating on it) is that there are ways to modify your engine management computer, but not through adding a "chip." You don't implant an extra computer chip...you change the settings on what's already inside the engine computer.
Now, could someone give this friendly junior member some helpful advice?

As to the origonal question I guess as moderator I really should try to help.
Hypertech Power Programmer $350ish + scan tool
Iffy power tune
Allows minor changes to preset values
Needs a scan tool to monitor sensors
Super tuner $350ish + scan tool
basically the same as HPP
Diablo Sport Predator $420ish
Decent canned power tune (IMHO)
Allows twice as many changes as above and you set it where you want it
Can make minor adjustments to timing and fuel
Has built in scan tool
Can read and clear trouble codes
Can get custom tunes from your dealer via e-mail
LS1 edit $550ish + scan tool
You directly edit the PCM and can do whatever you like
Needs a scan tool to monitor sensors
Can read and clear trouble codes
You make your own custom tunes
And last but not least. There are many speed shops out there that are getting very proficient with LS1 edit and will dyno tune the most HP out of your configuration. From around $175 for speedo and fans to $500ish for a full dyno tune.
Whew.....lots of typing.......time for my nap.

Hey man, welcome to the board, listen to what happened to me, I bought a used stock SS and thought it was stock, it even had the original airlid with the baffles and all that ****, anyway, I put it on the dyno and it kicked 25 more horses than it should have, the dyno guy was looked at me and asked "what the hell did you do to this thing???" I say , "nuttin!" After looking around we saw that someone had messed with the cpu board, so after running the fuel/air ratio test I was running one point lean, which isn't good, but its okay when you kick out 25 more horses and you can definantly feel a difference (after driving a friends SS), all I really need to do is buy a MAF translator that lets you dial in the ratio to make my kitten purrrrr. The Moderator has good info but hopefully you can find something a little cheaper.
PS Don't let these women give you a hard time, you'd be pissed if your cpu was your only friend.......lol, jk.

guess i forgot to say welcome to the boards, my bad for that. you will find that a lot of people will flame you but the only way you will ever learn is if you ask. don't be afraid to ask questions. its just like real life, there are gunna be a lot of *******s out there, the boards are no different. we all had to ask the same quiestions you will probably ask. just ask away.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned this yet!
USE THE SEARCH OPTION BEFORE ASKING.
Not only do you reduce the chance of getting your feelings hurt when someone gets annoyed at your question and replies in a belittling tone, but you will instantly get the answer you are looking for and also reduce the amount of questions that get asked over and over every week.
Just remember that every one of us has had to ask the same questions that you will some day. Your answers are probably already here.
BTW - Welcome.
