Cleaned K&N FIPK now I have an engine code!

I did the whole clean and oil bit on my LS1 the other day, didn't drive the car for a day but I did put the filter on after 10 mins of the oil drying. Today on my way back from work, no traffic, got the chance to open her up a bit, nothing major but now i'm getting a code. I don't have a scanner but I read a post that some guy might have gotten crap on his MAF, meaning, needs cleaning or contacts or no good. Can that actually throw a code? Plus, anyone have a code reader for sale?

Probably over-oiled the filter and now the MAF is coated. Hence the reason I run a paper filter. Grab some MAF cleaner and give 'er a squirt or two.

I would say there is a real good chance that you have oil contaminating the MAF . I would try cleaning the MAF with some electronics cleaner and make sure that the filter is not over oiled. You can get the codes read at autozone for free, at least you will know why your SES light is on.

Maybe...or could be something else and just a coincidence...the code(s) will set you free.

I'm pretty sure I over oiled that filter, damn MAF's are so delicate. I'll head down toa shop and see if they can scan for me, no autozones around here.

If you think that you needed to let the oil in the filter "dry", which it never will, it's WAY over-oiled! If I were you I would just clean the filter again and VERY LIGHTLY oil the filter. Clean the MAF with non-chlorinated brake cleaner, as electronics cleaner and carb cleaner will leave a varnish. Disconnect the battery while servicing the vehicle for safety and to reset the check engine light. IF the light comes back on afterwards, the problem is not related and THEN take it to get scanned.

Thanks for the help guys, had nothing to do with the MAF, it was code P0430 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2, read it's the pass side, anyway, the code has been cleared and so far it hasn't come back. I read that it could be a bad batch of gas, something, anything. Bought a scanner off of ebay too. Thanks for the help guys.

Be aware that there is a TSB out on bad cats on the passenger side of some 00 and up f-bodies. If the car has less than 80, 000 miles on it in the USA GM must fix it for free. I do not know how the Canadian goverment is about making GM step up.

Yeah, you should not have cleared that DTC. GM is offering a customer satisfaction program that extends the warranty coverage on the catalytic converters. GM will replace free of charge your catalytic converter(s) if that DTC is stored in the PCM. That program covers your year and engine, and is free of charge as long as the odometer is under 120,000 miles.
