Check guages light on in RUN position! HELP!
Check guages light on in RUN position! HELP!
Hi everyone,
When I turn the ignition switch to the Run position..i see the Check guages light come on. Once I start the engine..it goes off and everything is fine. While the engine is off and ignition is on Run, the only guage I see as problematic is the voltage guage showing a the red line approx 9 volts or something. Went to the dealer and they replaced the alternator..said the battery is working fine..and then told me that it is normal for the Check Guages light to come on in Run position because the oil guage would be 0 and would only come to normal when the engine starts..I don't remember if I ever had the "check .. " light come on even in run position. Do you folks think that I would have a wire in my circuits..connecting to the chassis or something?
I had a reply to my post earlier asking to see if the battery leaked..but nope there was no leakage.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards
Philip

Hey folks,
Thanks so much for the reply. I was a bit worried for sometime there. Can't believe that I spent a week at the dealers..trying to figure this out. I should have talked to this list at first before doing anything else.
Glad to know that this is normal. But there is something else that I wanted to confirm, when the ignition switch is in the Run position the voltage guage is at around 11 volts..just after the red dots stop and the normal area begins? (I have a 2002 model..so I don't have a yellow zone in the guage), is that ok? Once I start up the needle jumps to a healthy 14..
Just wanted to confirm if this was normal too..
Thanks once again folks..next time i stick on to the message board before shuttling off to the dealers.

the guage is gonna read low since the engine isn't turning the alt. to recharge the battery, and it's pulling power to run all those lights, guages, and the radio etc...
so yeah...any car will read low in the RUN position
