cats or no cats

im going to be putting my slp quad exhaust with the loudmouth and noticed some bassini y- pipes that work with stock manifolds that you can get with or without cats so my question is can i go with the pipe with no cats? is it worth it? thanks

Re: cats or no cats

i had the bassani off-road pipe (no cats) on my 99z for a while.

honestly...waste of money. the fit was terrible. i had a horrible clearance issue with the frame just under the front driver seat and it had to be cut and rewelded up near the passenger manifold flange. i had to install poly motor mounts to fix the first problem.

there wasn't a noticable gain in power, but there was a VERY noticable change in sound. much louder and raspier on the top end.

if anything, just get the SLP ypipe that welds on behind the cats and flows a little better. although i honestly don't know how the clearnce is with that.

BESIDES...the LM with no cats is VERY loud and to some people pretty nasty sounding (nasty as in bad).

I had an ORY-pipe with my Borla and I loved the way it sounded. It was a little annoying at times, but overall not too bad. What I would suggest doing is finding off-road pipes that just replace the cats if you want to keep your stock manifolds. You can use your original y-pipe or an SLP y-pipe with them and I didn't have any fitment issues. They go for $240 over at www.thunderracing.com (supporting vendor). However, most people would agree with me when I say...save your money for some longtubes.

i'd suggest bullit cats...the high flow round ones. not the "high flow" stock looking ones, but the ones that are round. they are literally free flowing. they are street legal, staniless steel, emissions legal, and do not restrict airflow at all. my ex's dad has a GN and replaced his cats with them...they sounded great and he noticed his spool up time went down by about 500rpm...not much, but he didnt even touch the exhaust except the cat. it sounded great too.

Re: cats or no cats

If you ever plan on running headers, aftermarket Y pipes are a waste of $.

!Cat vs highflow cats is a difference of a couple of hp.

Personally, I'm going to do what I can to keep the NOx emmissions down to keep the Environazis at bay. Well, hopefully slow them down a bit. I'd hate to end up having Cal emmisions laws and having to put stock manifolds back on my car.
