Catch Can w/out PCV valve
Catch Can w/out PCV valve
I posted early about how much oil my car was burning. After doing some research and looking at my car, I have discovered that my car uses a catch can, and that there is no pcv valve on my car.
Now my question are: why is there a catch can? What does it do? and why would there be no pcv valve? would not having a PCV valve cause a substantial increase in oil consumption (1.5 courts every 300 miles)?
Thanks,
Pride

You should still have a PCV valve even with a Catch Can.
LS1 engines are loose and typically use a quart of oil every 3k miles or so.
No PCV valve could cause some idle/part throttle issues and maybe even detonation problems at WOT with no regulation of the flow... i'm not sure.
But regardless 1.5quarts every 300 miles? Somebody is terribly wrong. I'd run a compression test.
I'd put a PCV valve in as well, but I don't think that's all your problem.

The Pcv valve should be located at the rear driver side valve cover. The pass side also had two vents. One goes to the throttle body. Most boosted cars remove the hose to the throttle body and use a catch can and run the out to the intake side of the turbo or supercharger. This prevents boost getting into the crankcase. I have no idea why you have a catch can as a sub for the stock pcv system.
