cat ? HP gains and gas mileage loss?
cat ? HP gains and gas mileage loss?
ive heard people cutting their cats and running straight pipe and them gaining horsepower from it. is this true? Will it affect my engine in anway and how about gas mileage. So would cutting the cat off be a good idea or not?
Re: cat ? HP gains and gas mileage loss?
things to consider,
- ive heard it doesnt make much hp gain unless they are clogged
- noise increase, some like it some dont, will sound more raspy
- o2 sims since your ob2
- illegal to start with most people kinda overlook that though

Re: cat ? HP gains and gas mileage loss?
It effects your torque curve more than HP. Backpressure effects where the engine makes TQ.
No cats= high rpm tq
cats=low rpm tq.
I'm thinking of taking mine off to get my EXH a bit louder. W/ The Borla I'll prolly end up putting them back on due to too much rasp. You might not notice the rasp change due to your flowmasters. WHen you get your headers, you can allways order a set of high flow cats just to stay legal.
What state are you in anyway? Emmissions laws?
