cat back opnion--?
cat back opnion--?
anyone have any input on the dynomax, or magnaflow catbacks? I am finalizing my debate between one of those or the dynomouth setup.... I will most likely be adding headers in the near future as well, would it be worth the extra exhaust diameter to have the catback over the stock dynomouth-piping? thanks
if you can afford the bill go with GMMG. the sound is the best i have ever heard on an LS1. Go to www.GMMGINC.com and check it out. mine is on its way
Everyone says the system they have sounds best... I'll prove it to you: The Dynomouth is the best sounding system I have ever heard on an LS1.
There you go, everyone likes their system the best.
You ask about pipe size: The .25" larger pipe you get with a full cat-back means very little to an LS1 until you get into serious mods. At which point it makes very little sense to go with a 3" system... you'll most likely want a Mufflex 4" or a dual 3". Therefore paying through the nose for a 3" cat-back is useless IMO. The stock pipes are 2.75" mandrel bent stainless steel, why toss out a good thing when you can just toss the clogged up stock muffler and get the same gains along with a great sound.
Good luck
Dave

well from that video clip, the dynomouth does sound pretty good. And i think you're right when you say everyone thinks there own sounds the best. Only thing with me is i still have stock exhaust. but not for long.
If all you want is sound, either get a Flowmaster muffler only or get a cutout. (Better yet, get a Flowmaster 80 and electric cutout ... that's where I'm going)
Or, here's something I had done at a muffler shop for $10 and I loved the sound.
On the stock exhaust, where the pipe comes INTO the muffler, there is an EXIT pipe running right next to it. Have a shop weld in a 2" diameter piece of pipe between them. You're allowing a good portion of the exhuast to dump before the muffler.
It made a HUGE difference in sound on my Z28.

I have the mac catback. It has been good to me.

I know the original post to this thread didn't mention a GMMG, but if you have the money to spend on one, it's the one to get. The only thing I have heard bad about it, is the price. After that, people who own it, love it.
If you (or speedy) is interested in getting one, there is a GP going on right now at f-body hideout.
Honestly though, there are a whole bunch of choices out there with different pluses and minuses....you will have to make the call. There isn't a no brainer choice.
