car smells bad inside after getting on it...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok heres what happens, when i get on the throttle for prolonged periods of time, say a pass at the track or if i punch it on the highway and hold it, it starts to smell really bad in the car like something is burning, there is no smoke anywhere, i pulled over immediatly because it got really bad this time(yes it does it when i get on it regularly but not this bad) and hopped out, the car wreaked inside so bad it was almost unbearable. yet outside, underneath it, behind it, and under the hood there was no odor... my other 01' did this when i first got on it a few times but then it stopped, this ones doing it more and more every time i get on it... the smell is similiar to burnt mud(yes burnt mud, i used to play offroad alot in my truck) i cant describe the smell better but its not gas, exhaust, brakes or anything else... i have no idea what it could be so any ideas would be great. oh yeah my buddy with a 98' has had the same smell in his car a couple times as well when he got on it.

Burning the tranny fluid??? Burnt ATF doesnt exactly smell nice, but i would imagine you would get a whiff outside too.

Either that or possibly when WOT your motor moves in its mounts enough to cause some hot thing to touch and burn something.

I had an unbearable smell in my Mustang GT once.... hit a plastic bag... turned out it would smell worse when i was on it more because the bag melted on the exhaust towards the rear of the car where it wasnt that hot all the time.

Dude...its the cutout. Mine did the same thing. The cutout is pointed at the bottom of the car and the heat will cook the carpet and the rear right shock, but it will smell inside the car. Guarantee you this is your problem.

Yes it does, and almost 3 years later I've got a burn spot under the rear pass. side seat on the carpet. The carpet literally separates from the backing when you vacuum it. I've also replaced the right rear shock a couple of x's. Talk about a really unstable launch!!

mine only smells now when I go to the track and ride WOT for a couple of seconds...maybe 10 or 12 But in general just driving around it will go away. After you've been driving around for a while, get a socket and take the rear pass seat out, or just stick your hand beside the seat and the hump in the back....you will be surprised!
