Can a Cam-Only LS1 run 10's?

Like the title says, do you think it's possible for an LS1 to run 10's with the only internal mod being a cam?

on stock displacement... not that i've seen. i've seen them do it on 150 shot, but if you exclude that, then probably not. there might be some cases of people fixing up the stock heads a lil to go with the cam better. kind of cheating but technically they have stock head castings. I've seen a bone stock lt1 motor go 12.26, but the car was gutted to the max, and like 4000 stall with 3.73's and great suspension. so, i guess it's possible if the suspension was tuned excactly perfect, and the car was majorly gutted, but otherwise it'd hafta be no. keep in mind that most all stock weight head/cam packaged ls1 cars don't get much faster than 11.3-11.6's.

As said above...it's already been done.

I believe the record for the quickest "cam only" LS1 was a 10.86 @ 123 but that was done in a C5, not an F-body.

So these 10 second runs were done on stock heads, no displacement increase, and no nitrous?

Well, I wasn't there to see these runs personally (nor have I ever seen these cars in-person) but I'm gonna take their word for it.

There are bolt-on LS1s deep into the 11s so I don't find it hard to believe that with the addition of a pretty big cam, LS1s could pick up another 4-6 tenths.

Remember, stock LS1 heads flow very well (for stock) so they're not really a "bottleneck" until you start making quite a few ponies. Although, I'm sure they'd be corking up a motor with a .600+ lift cam and bolt-ons.

Just FYI, these guys are also cutting some sick 60' times, 1.4-1.5.

The record for internally stock NA LS1 is 11.25, so yeah It's more than feasible and has already been done.

Most of these cars are using big stall A4s, which helps. With a ***** of a cam, it can be done.

I think it could be done as well if it's an auto with a huge stall like a Yank PT4400. I hear that's a monster of a torque converter. Of course the 4L60E couldn't fatham that kind of power so your changing trannys and rear ends first and foremost. Then all bolt-ons, big cam, lots-o-suspension work, ect.

I know a guy with a 2000 Navy Blue Trans Am. It has a 4400 stall and a GX52 cam. Pulled 10.7s on a 1.5 60 foot. 3700 lb race weight.

As everyone else has, YES Actually it's becoming more complace than one might think.

Got a buddy locally here who has 2K SS. Custom cam (huge), built tranny with 4.5k stall, 4.10s, bolt-ons, and about $3K in suspension work (alot of which are custom "one-off" pieces). Rear seat delete, alum. racing seats, various weight reduct., Bogart racing wheels, QT Pros, etc. Racewieght is 3-3,1K. Runs 10.9s @ 120-122 with 1.4X 60s...
