Whats the best cam shaft to get. and why do some companys say the gain in HP is 20-30 and a package is 50-100. The difference between 50 and 100 is alot.

PLMK. Thank guys.

There is no "best" cam, it's what YOU want, not us. It's about the mods your car has, and what it will have. How you drive it, and how you want it to drive.

And packages usually include more than just a cam, probably also heads, possible some other little things. Cam + Heads usually = 400+rwhp

I personally am leaning towards the TR220 114 cam. I don't plan on ever installing headers(except maybe shorties) because of the smog ***** here in Cali. I think the TR220 or something similar would be the best for me to remain smog legal and the most H.P. I was also looking at the GT2-3 cam from lingenfelter, but that lift is pretty damn high...which means more stress on the springs, and much louder valvetrain noise. I'm also considering the Comp 218 cam...don't know...decisions, decisions

You mean you can't get away with FLP's? I thought you could...

If you go with FLPs (or any LT) and you use cats, they're not going to be in the stock location...and that's illegal. However, most emissions inspectors probably don't know where the stock cat(s) location is so you might be able to get away with it.

Actually, you can go up to a 224/224 114 and still pass emmisions. Tuning will help too. The LSA is what will kill you, you must stay above 114.

Do you think it'll still pass the sniffer? I always hear this, but I have yet to find someone who has had to have a smog test yet. I helped a friend install TTS headers and I'll say it was a PITA. I don't want to have to go through that again unless they are on their for good, which is why I'm holding off on installing Long Tubes.

Do any of these cams have a CARB cert number? What kind of HP gains can be expected?

I imagine that the LS6 cam is the only one with a CARB number.

You can make close to 400rwhp with a large cam and lt's with a good tune. It is all about how streetable you want things. with heads and a cam that would come near 400rwhp with stock heads you could come close to 450rwhp. Thats like track car or something with more cubes. with something that most people consider streetable you can make 375rwhp with full exhaust. Go to combination motorsport or ls1speed and look at their cam choices. You could go with a cutom grind too.
