IS this cam too big?... .649 .609??

My buddy might be getting rid of his cam. -For a different one. He's got ported LS6 heads. Is this cam a smidge too big for a stock LS1?? Seems like a LOT of lift.

TSP Magic Stick V.4 -239/242 .649"/.609" 112 LSA- Too much/agressive for a DD?

I might be getting a good deal on H/C soon!!!

IMO, yes. But people do it. You'll need some gears to keep it in the powerband.

I'm of the opinion that most poeple overcam their engine when if they'd just do a good set up with a smaller cam while making less on the dyno they'd run just as fast or faster. Check out the grinds Patrick G on tech comes up with.

I am not sure, but with that much duration, you might wanna measure piston to valve clearances...

I know someone with that cam, and it'd be pretty rough for a daily driver, but if you don't mind surge, go for it.

Another downside to these big cams comes with the necessity of fly cutting.
I've talked to some local guys, and they said the MS4 isn't making anymore power than the MS3.
I personlly don't know, but I did find this:

Your not gonna notice any drive ability issues between the ms3-4 they will be about the same. I dd an ms4. If you have a good tuner you won't have to worry too much about cam surge and stuff like that. I have a very slight amount of surge at idle only. You can't hear it through the exhaust but can see it on the tach. It still gets right at 20 mpg, and I also have some ok patriot heads with about 12.85 compression (probly helps some). The car makes awesome power clear across the board.

I've got a T-Rex 243/249, .608/.613, 110.2lsa and its REALLY close to the pistons, but just clear enough to keep it from slapping... I'd highly recommend making sure that your piston clearance is ok if you go with that cam... and with the right tuning, you should be just fine daily driving that cam... but it will probably take some tuning in the midrange and low end to get rid of the surge.
