Cam swap in ls-1..how hard is it?
Gotta friend asking about putting a cam in his 99' Z-28. What all's involved? Just pull the radiator, valve covers, and intake right? Let me know what you all "experts" think. Also what would you recomend for a car that is mostly stock but may go forced inuction later along the line? Thanx for all the responses I know I will get in advance

I was talking to my friend about this who's a mechanic, next week he's helpting me select a CAm for my car and we will look at install. You might have to kinda drop the engine out of the car because 1/3 rd of it is in the dashboard
You do not have to drop the engine to do a cam swap. Typically you need to change the springs to which was harder then the cam itself, for us. We did it in my garage and we had to take just about everything off the front of the engine, radiator, water pump, etc, to put a Z06 cam in his 98 TA but we did not have to pull the engine. Good luck.

With the proper tools a cam swap is a snap. Even with the motor still in the car. Just remember to use the proper valve springs and upgrade the rest of the valvetrain accordingly to the specs of the cam. In a forced induction motor I would use a split pattern cam wich is heavier on the exhaust side both in duration and lift to help scavenge the exhaust gases quicker out of the motor.
The Z06 cam is a good upgrade but honestly for someone that is willing to go through the trouble of doing a cam swap you should really look at other cams out there with the same streetability of a Z06 cam which make more power even with stock heads. I would definately call someone such as thunder racing for a stock heads application since they seem to have the best of luck with this.
