Re: Cam Question

Don't know if I would want to back my car into a lake to find out.

Try www.ls1sounds.com . They have a few videos with cam'ed cars.

Do you really want your car to sound like a boat?

Most of the cars won't sound like a boat as most of them are powered by big blocks. Corsa catback sort of sounds boatish, as the company got its start in the boat world.

Re: Cam Question

For about the price of a hot cam kit you can get a GT2-5 from Lingenfelter and LS6 springs and some hardened push rods.

Re: Cam Question

most big powerboats i have heard (live on an island that hosts the offshore boat races every year) have a crazy lope to them.

mostly because they are designed to make power up high.

any decent cam with a nice tight lobe separation...112 or less will make it lope pretty good.

i know my 233/233 112 does

Re: Cam Question

does the lope sepparation have anything to do with the hp curve?

Yeah, the narrower the LSA is, the sooner the power increase (over stock)comes on.

Most people don't want a rough idle that beats you up sitting at a redlight. So, and easy way to limit this is to widen the LSA reducing the overlap. The powerband moves up slightly, but drivability and idle quality increase, but it doesn't sound like you are concerned about such.

FWIW, many highly credited authors say a narrow LCA/LSA of 108 is ideal for a GenI small block chevy. I'd, personally, like to see some narrower LSA GenIII cams for the LSx series of engines.

Re: Cam Question

I see so the LSA refers to the lope i.e. 112 114 ect.

So do any people on this board run anything less that 112 (for ls1) on this board.... anyone ever heard this kind of cam on our motor?

close....missing it by one letter...

LSA = loBe separation angle

loPe refers to the sound the engine makes with a cam...it's the "chugging" kindda sound

and i havn't seen many cams lower than 112, i think futral or TSP makes one that is 110 or something...i know i've seen one...but is was one of the BIG cams...like 24x something intake duration

Re: Cam Question

Mikey, at Rapid Motorsports uses a 109 lsa on many of his custom cams. There are quite a few 110 lsa cams out there.

Re: Cam Question

overlap is what causes the lope, not LSA. LSA is just a good indicator of more overlap.

For a graph on the GT2-5 check out LS1tech. Do a search for "hammer cam." Same specs etc, just sold by MTI.

Get a cam that makes power in the range you want, not because it sounds like a boat.

Study, check out tech also. There is a guy that got 400 whp cam only from a narrow LSA custom ground cam like you mentioned. The cool thing it is wasn't real radical and it made the power by 6k rpm. The Aussies are running cams like this and making good power amd torque at lower RPM, but their tuning is also ahead of ours.

Re: Cam Question

Yeah, the Aussies have individual tb setups available which helps w/ narrow LSA cams as well.
