cam question

I want to install a new cam for alittle more hp. Would new heads and rods ect. really be needed? The only mods I really have is a SLP lid, GMMG cat back, Pacesetter LT's, and a TSP catted Y, (working on getting a SLP LS6 intake). And what size cam would you recommend for my '98 Z?

Re: cam question

heads are not needed at all. the stock casting flow pretty freakin well. you'll make more hp if you did heads...but it will still run fine after a good tune.

i suggest a TR224 cam or so

nothing really special is needed other than valve springs, should net you around 370-390hp after a tune (with your mods maybe more) and will be streetable

Re: cam question

youll need PRs,springs, retainers ect with most cams.

what you need is usually available with the cam your buying.

TR cams seem to make nice power with stock heads.

Re: cam question

I was looking at the TR224 cam, but ive also been looking at the comp XER cam , it has 224/230 duration and .581/.588 lift. Does anyone here have that cam, and which one would make more power? I know Thunderracing has awesome custom grind cam, so is there any reason to believe the TR224 would make more power then the XER cam?

Re: cam question

Higher lift usually translates to more power, but it also has a lot to do with other bolt-ons and the tune of the car.

Re: cam question

Ok, so how does this package from Thunder Racing sound:

CamPk-S = 224/224-114
26918 valve springs
reuse stock retainers
TR stock length pushrods (7.400)
new gaskets

Seems to be in a good price range. But I am confused by the cam size. There was a 224/224-114 and a 224/224-112 I really don't know much about cams. My goal is to reach alittle over 400hp. Tell me what you think about this package, I saw it on ThunderRacing
