Cam and N20 ??

I am new to owning a camaro and with this years tax return i am looking at getting a cam and the new zex blackout kit, does anyone know what kind of cam i may need. I am looking for something that i can still drive on the street( daily driver) It is a 98' Z28 A4 120k miles mostly stock,
I have installed comp cams cam quest and requested info but that was a while ago and no answer
Thanks in advance

Can't choose a cam for you but I can tell you that you WILL need a new torque converter to get the power to the road and will probably roach the trans in short order.
Plan for that in your budget.

You'd need to obtain all of the bolt-ons first before a cam-swap with an auto, IMO...i.e., exhaust, headers, lid or CAI, gears, torque converter, etc.

If you're looking for a cheap thrill, just add the nitrous and see what happens. A 100 shot will probably work with no problem. If everything holds up, you should be good. I'd be a little wary about adding a ton of power to a stock motor/tranny with 120k on it.

Start with the bolt-ons to make more power.

well for cheap easy power just clear up your intake and exhaust, those are usually the first mods anyway, gears are not the best idea. and then you can start worring about a cam, and anything over 100 shot of N2O will probobly put a hole in your pistons, cause they are only hypertenic. they expand when they get hot, so there for dont take hot explosions to well

Yeah that's soooooo wrong. I have known guys that put 150 wet kits on their LS1s when brand new and ran them for years like that. It's all in having the proper safety equipment and a good nitrous tune.

yea you can go that high, i have even seen 200 wet and the car ran fine...for 6 launches!!!! you ever taken the heads off of an ls1 after firing N2O in it after a few months? even a small shot, like 100 does internal damage after a while, so you can take you chances cause that is all you are doing with it.

My brother ran 150 shot on his 150k LT1 stock motor with boltons and the proper timing retard taken out on 93 octane for a year with no problems. Later when he went to Iraq and he had me take the engine apart to prep it for a different set up I observed that the stock pistons looked great with no hot spots or detonation marks of any kind. He still uses the stock crank and rods in his new set up with a 175 shot and cam with the addition of nitrous pistons and has been doing it for years with no problems. Most folks that you hear of having problems with small or normal shots are the ones that aren't setting it up correctly. Done correctly the stock LT1 motor loves nitrous and will take it for a long time with absolutely no ill side affects.

I suggest you lookup on TRMIN8R on LS1Tech, YouTube, etc. That guy ran a 240 duration cam with a 200 shot - put on average 2-3 bottles through the engine PER WEEKEND FOR OVER 2 YEARS.

I know numerous guys locally that have been running 100-150 shots on stock shortblocks for years, some even into the 9s

As long as you don't go crazy on the shot, get a quality tune with a good fuel system, keep the engine maintained and don't do anything really stupid the stock pistons will last a lot longer than you think.

Correct. It's just like any other power adder. Don't run a pissload of timing, use colder plugs, use a decent fuel system... no probs.
