C6 427 Engine in a 98 Firebird
C6 427 Engine in a 98 Firebird
I was wondering how hard it would be to put one of the C6 427 (500 hp) engines in a 98 Firebird. Engine looks a lot like a LS1. I'm not sure of the wiring. I'd have to use the Corvette computer. I'd use the Firebird headers.
Re: C6 427 Engine in a 98 Firebird
It could be done. The motor should mount right up, but I'm not sure about packacing conflicts when it comes to the dry sump oilling system. I suppose you could just bolt up a conventional oil pan and drop it in that way.
If you dotn want to have to worry about such a problem, why not just go with a bored/stroke Gen 3 motor? Itd probably be easier and cheaper to make eqiuvalent or more power with a 402 or 408 engine package. Theres also the 427ci C5R blocks...
Lots of options, but theyre all pricey.

If you looking to drop a ton of cash, just get a Lingenfelter 427 setup.
Better have a big wallet :^)

Tuning it would be a bitch.... apparently you have to have this CANDi thing or whatever to hook even to the tech 2 just to scan it... and from what ive read it is a dealer thing only... but id imagine people are out there cracking it to be able to tune..

As far as $6700 for a rebuild being a deal, wow! You can buy a new LS1 for that, anywhere! The LS2 from Rapid looked good, but no HP #'s.
If you have the cash, I say go for it. Who wants to be like everybody else. I think people are just saying there are cheaper ways of going about it.

Yes thats a decent deal since that price also includes labor of putting it in for you and the whole 9 yards. ALso, SLP 402 short blocks are about 4,000 w/o head, cam, and lifters. WHich is another $3,000 ruffy to add. So you can get a larger built motor for the same price at that lingenfelter. Put whatever cam and heads you want on th 402 and be capable of makeing alot more power.

Re: C6 427 Engine in a 98 Firebird
What about dropping it in a '97 Camaro?
I really can't find anything that'll get 500 hp from the LT1 that isn't more than just buying the LS7. What would the rest of the costs be for it? I work at a bodyshop, so I'm gonna do the install with some guys at work. But what else would I need to get to make this work? I assume I'd need a need transmission, drivetrain, rear end, computer, dry sump system, etc. Anything obvious I'm missing or can anybody give me a ballpark figure on what its gonna cost me to do it?

for under 4k, why not just go get an STS. It is a little pricey, but probably better for you. I would like to get one, but they cost about 4k (I am buying a house) and you only get 1 exhaust tip
