As just said C5 stands for 5th generation Corvette. It began with the model year '97 to present. The C6 is expected to hit the showrooms this next spring.

Z06 corvettes are the hard core showroom racing corvettes. They come with a stiffer suspension, the LS6 engine, all have M6 transmissions only, and are exclusively fixed roof coupes (FRC).

The coupe however, has a removable top, and a hatchback. It comes with A4 standard (thats right M6 is an extra expense option!). It can also be ordered with more options than the Z06.

Sounds like you drove a C5 coupe with an A4 and a LS1 under the hood.

My '97 Auto C5 with optional 3.15 gears (2.73 stock) runs 13.6 @ 103. My son's '00 SS M6 with a lid, ported TB and free mods runs 12.9 on drag radials @ 109.8, 13.2 on stock tires.

C5s are a lot of fun to drive. Try a Z06 if you need to go quicker.

cost

I liked the car because I can afford it. I cannot afford a 40k+ Z06 but this is doable, my payments will go from 355 to 460 a month. Which, yes, is a lot but still is within my budget. The Vette seems more refined and quieter but I like the roar and attention I get in the SS. It's just evil looking! And people don't quite know what it is, they just know it went by them really, really fast . Everyone knows what a Vette is and they stereotype the owners as middle-aged crisis guys. I do rarely see anyone under 40 driving them; but I bet that's because you don't have the money til then . Is 24k a steal for a white,a4, 48k miles, fully loaded coupe? The fact they're giving me 18,6 for my vert tells me they really want to move the Vette, and it comes with a 12month/12000 mile FULL warrenty also. I'm on the fence.

Don't buy the vette until you can honestly say that driving an automatic car won't bother you. Yes the vette is a nicer car but you have an M6 and many manual guys can not deal with the lack of interaction that comes with autos.

But if you wanna race at the track and autos don't bother you then by god get that vette and put a bad a$$ torque converter in it. I would love to have that vette over my formula. Just make sure the auto thing will fly with you down the road.

Good Luck
