Question C5 or '02 SS?

Ok,

Im transfer colleges next year (going in-state), which will save the parents $$,$$$. So I will get an upgrade on the '95 Camaro that I have now.... I kinda have my eyes set on a C5 Corvette .... but a SS Camaro looks sooo good too... now being 18 , turning 19 on the 28th... now me being a big GM fan ... im in the middle of the two. I also live in Nebraska so the winters are sometimes harsh. What would you do? and what gives the edge of the other?

Thanks for all your help!

hm

I think it depends on the situation of each car. Mileage? Warranty? Condition? Price? both are nice cars either way just look for the best deal you can get.

The C5 is a STEP UP from the SS, that's for sure. Handleing, comfort, performance is superior, even in the base models. I've seen 97 C5's going for 22k. The value of used C5's has come down about 20% in the last year, good time to buy.

Geez, search! This F-body vs. Vette question has been asked 4 times in the past month! Each time it's the same thing, some people say Vette, some say F-body... the answer is get whatever the hell you want! It's not our $$!

go for like a 98 Z28 and save a sh*tload of $$ and mod the living hell out of it. Its far cheaper than both.

Well if you are 18, and can afford a C5, why not get it? I am sure you can mod it as well if you can afford it being that young...

I think if you can go with the C5 and your parents are cool with it, than that is the way to go. When it came time for my new car after my 95Z, I could have gone with a Z28 or SS. I chose the SS because my parents were willing to pay the extra amount (that and I just love the looks, but thats not my point). If I HAD gone with the Z28, its not like they would have given me the extra cash that they saved over an SS anyway. Most people's reasoning for buying a Z28 over an SS is to use the extra cash for mod's, which I wouldn't have gotten the extra couple grand anyway, so it would have been pointless. So what I'm saying is, might as well go with the C5 since they are willing to go that far. It's highly unlikely that you would get the extra cash from buying an SS over a C5 anyway. Either way, both cars kick @ss and I'm pretty sure you will be happy no matter your choice. BTW, don't forget to thank your parents An SS is an unbelievable gift for an 18 year old! (I got mine when I was 18 too). Best of luck to you.

Things is, the winters here are sometimes a b*tch... and the roads arent that smooth either so that is kinda detering me from getting that vette.. plus the driveway slopes are sooo poorly done, its funny to watch my neighbors try to get up their driveway when its icy out.... with a Camaro SS i wouldnt have to worry soo much about about the slopes and dragging the spoiler and exhaust pipes on the driveway... my parents would more than likely give me money if I opted for the Camaro SS to maybe mod it a little... I test drove a '00 Z28 last month and I was thrilled with it... but I would definitely go for the SS .... Im the guy that gets emotionally attatched to the cars so I will not be happy to see the '95er go.... but the SS should smooth things out just as long as I sell the '95er someone out of town .... now being a avid camaro fan from day one .... I might just have to go after that SS and get the vette later down the road.

Rd95Z: roughly how much was the insurance on the SS?

I'm 18 with a 00' SS. Although my parents didn't buy me one. Insurance for me would have been (I THINK) $270-$320 a month. This is where my parents come in...I'm insured on their mini-van, and get away with paying $30 a month while getting to drive my baby. How it works is my dads plan considers me a full time driver on the van and a part time driver on whatever else is listed (my camaro.)

insurance wise, you'd get f*cked to next sunday, every week, until you turn (what is it, 21+?) Have your parents have it under their name.

g0d damn son, a c5 at age 18? I hated kids like you when I didn't have a car. Lucky sob. ;p

Well.... im starting to side with the SS ..... my dad had waited along time for him to get his vette... and it would be wierd and unfair to get a vette sooo soon.... i think i might go with the SS ...and yeah... itl be put on the parents name ..... actually .. im insured on the '81 vette... it was the cheapest rate out of all the cars we have.... I consider myself extremely lucky because of what situation im in.... i dont think i can ever thank my parents enough .

I was born to drive Camaro

Im blessed to have parents that are willing to pay for things for me, but in no way do I take this for granted. I have
GREAT RESPECT for you and other people that work hard for their car. Just with the circumstances I am with my parents and the situation I cant really turn it down. Its something they are willing to do. Not something Im putting them in a bind to have them provide for me.
