Broken Transmission mount?
More than likely it's slop in the driveline.
As far as a broken mount, I *believe* you have to get under the car & try to pry on the mount. Chilton's & Haynes's probably will do a better job of explaining it, but you are looking for tears or obvious signs of the rubber being shot.

Get under the car and pry on the trans with the pry bar on the crossmember, you will see how the mount is moving. if it is real bad you will notice the rubber seperating from the mount itself.
If you have a broken mount, I suspect you would feel the whole thing banging against something.
I broke a tranny mount about a month ago in my thirdgen. Anytime I accelerated and gave the car some torque (nearly all the time in a TPI) I could actually feel the whole tranny *BANG* or *CLUNK* against something. Didn't sound or feel pretty, but got it fixed for cheap and no other problems from it.
