which bottom ends on an LS1
Re: which bottom ends on an LS1
what do you mean by "fit"??
they are all the same design block, just different size cylinder bores and strokes.
and when was there ever an 8L block???

Re: which bottom ends on an LS1
There is a new(er) 8.1L / 496 c.i. truck engine ... built around ~99/00+ ... I've seen it, and it's got LSx style coil-on-plug ignition, and an intake that looks somewhat the same as all the new LSx intakes (well, probably looks more like the truck intakes I guess?
). I thought they were in fact a "big-block" engine though??
(not just a BIG displacement LSx / 6.0L truck engine
).
Otherwise, to answer your question about the bottom end, the 5.3L, 5.7L (LS1), and 6.0L (including LS2's) all use the same crank
. The only one with a different crank is the 4.8L, but it shares the same bore as the 5.3L. I bet that a "neat" combo would be a 6.0L engine (4.0" bore) with the 4.8L crank (3.27", instead of 3.62") ..... that would make a 329 c.i. instead of 364 c.i. (or 5.4L). THAT would be one high-revving motor!!
Be like the old 302's were!!

Re: which bottom ends on an LS1
speaking of that 329ci idea, I've always wondered if there was anyone who'd upped the compression, bored out the cylinders and put in a shorter stroke. It'd be awesome to have an LS1 with a smaller cid but capabilities of 8k rpm without any troubles

).and if it isn't fully loaded, it is incredibly bouncy, which can get annoying after a while. It also has 2 gas tanks.

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=470697Put those 3-valve heads onto a motor built to turn ~8000+ RPM, we'd probably end up with a ~9000 RPM redline!!
Not saying that's the best setup for a daily-driver "street" car, but for a Z28-esque, road-race-ready car, ala Z06??

...I'd be all over that like a fat kid on a Smartie!!!
