Borla?
Borla?
Replacing the fuel pump in my 98 LS1 M6 this weekend. Have to cut through the exhaust to drop the tank. Which is not a big prob because I wanted to replace the exhaust soon anyway. I am pretty sure about what I want, but wanted opinions and what people have heard about it....and if there are any suggestions on what would be the best bet when replacing my cat-back. Favorites? Experiences bad or good? Any input before I drop a grand.
I am looking at getting http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog/?action=vshop&vid=3&pcid=8http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...p&vid=3&pcid=8
Part #- 01-14780
Borla Cat-Back Exhaust System, 1998-2002 LS1 Camaro/Firebird with the dual tips.
by the way, if you go to this site...what is the difference between the two borlas listed....other than the dual tips? It says one is non-adjustable. (what is not adjustable)?

Re: Borla?
Ok, adjustable means that you can control how much exhaust actually goes through the muffler. In that respect, the adjustable Borla is simply an $800 cutout.
The other one is half open i assume, so it'll be less loud than the more expensive one on full open.
Although IMO, both setups are overpriced for what they are. A Magnaflow catback would be much better for your needs. Hooker catbacks are ok too, they sound very, very good with aftermarket headers, but i have heard of fitment issues.
What i would do is get the magnaflow, then switch the muffler out with a hooker muffler if you don't like the sound you've got.

Re: Borla?
Why do you have to cut the exhaust? I thought you had to drop the rear end out of the way. If you're doing that, then just unbolt the clamp up by the y-pipe and undo the hangers. Then the system should just slide right out. Unless of course, this is the "excuse for new mod" syndrome kicking in.
Re: Borla?
There are lots of exhaust systems out there to choose from. I am running a Hooker CB($289.99) right now. It's not too loud while cruising and sounds GREAT under WOT. Magnaflow is also a good sounding catback that we're running a special on. There's also our Rumbler CB if you looking for something a little louder. There's plenty to choose from. Go to ls1sounds.com if you want to here some sound clips of different exhaust systems.

Re: Borla?
There is an alternative to dropping the axle/fuel tank. You can cut an access panel in the sheet metal above the gas tank. You can access the fuel pump very easily from this location and it makes swapping the fuel pump pretty easy in the future. I did this on my old '97 and it worked great. Some people have negative things to say about it, but a lot of the people who replace their own pumps do it this way. Search around.

Re: Borla?
I'm running the borla catback and love the way they sound with my headers. I think the chrome Dual Square Angle-Cut Intercooled Tips are the nicest ones for sale. I say go borla all the way, great sounding at idle, no drone while highway driving, and absolutely pure evilness at WOT.
Re: Borla?
I cant ever get behind the Borla since it is just a $600 cutout..
I say go to the exhaust sites where all the sounds are and go to local meets and look around..
be different. Not just another cookie cutter.
